LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Feb. 5
A man asked for help with his intoxicated brother. Their mother didn’t want either at the house anymore, and officers told them they would be arrested for criminal trespass if they returned without permission. Their mother called about eight hours later to say she would give the brothers one more chance and they could return.
A woman asked for help getting some clothing back from a man she had spent the night with. The man told officers he let the woman stay on the couch and she had left her suitcase. He said he left the suitcase on his porch for her to pick up and now she was claiming some clothing was missing, which he said he knew nothing about.
A man who failed to remove garbage and his belongings from a campsite on city property was to be cited.
A driver was reported to have spun out in his Mustang, but he denied it.
At 2:42 p.m. an aggressive dog was reported on the Cross Trail.
A caller said a dog off-leash at the dog park attacked two dogs that were on a leash and had to be separated.
Two intoxicated people on Katlian Street were taken to the hospital and another was put in protective custody.
At 8:47 p.m. a social services worker said a youth had left home, but he returned on his own by 9:10 p.m.
A boy who concealed merchandise at a grocery store was told not to return to the store for a year.
At 10:45 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated man had fallen and was going in and out of consciousness. He refused medical help.
A white iPhone in a Buddy Box was found on the O’Connell Bridge.
Feb. 6
A youth was arrested on a warrant, and was to be taken to Juneau.
A boy was reported bitten in the head by a dog. The doctor said the puncture wound would heal, but wanted to make sure the dog’s shot record is up to date.
A caller sought a criminal trespass warning against a woman and asked police to pick up her luggage, which she had left in a hotel lobby. Police found her at a bank, returned her luggage and gave her the trespass notice. She said $100 was missing from her luggage, although officers said she hadn’t checked the suitcase.
A man said he left his black drysuit at Starrigavan by accident, and now it was missing. The police dispatcher saw the item posted on Sitka Chatters, and contact information was shared.
At 9:44 p.m. a vehicle slid on black ice and hit the guardrail in the 4000 block of HPR. The driver was ejected from the car and suffered only minor injuries. The fire department closed off sections of the road due to black ice, and DOT sanded the road.
Feb. 7
At 7:48 a.m. an ambulance picked up a ferry passenger at the terminal.
At 9:24 a.m. a single vehicle accident with no injuries was reported on Nelson Logging Road. A tow was arranged for the undamaged vehicle and officers gave the driver a ride home.
At 1:36 p.m. a Hirst Street resident said a terrier-mix dog was in her yard, playing with her dog.
At 4:16 p.m. a caller said ravens were pulling garbage out of the back of a vehicle in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. The vehicle owner agreed to clean up the mess.
A man said 100 gallons of gas was stolen from his boat in Eliason Harbor.
At 7:42 p.m. a caller said his red Rhodesian Ridgeback dog ran off after fireworks were set off on Edgecumbe Drive. The dog was described as “a massive brownish-red dog” with a Peyton Manning jersey tied to him, and answers to the name “Tug.” The dog was still missing at 9 a.m. today.
Feb. 8
At 1:42 a.m. a caller complained about the loud bass sound coming from the neighbor’s trailer in the 2700 block of HPR. The neighbor wouldn’t answer the door when police knocked.
In Court
Trevor J. Hornaman, 25, was sentenced to 88 months, with 46 suspended, and fined $10,000, with $8,500 suspended, for attempted misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree. He may receive up to 139 days’ credit for time spent in inpatient treatment. He will be on probation for four years.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:54, 3:07, 3:41, 6:03, 6:17, 7:43 and 10:45 p.m. Friday; 1:24 p.m. Saturday; and 7:50 a.m. 12:26 p.m. and 4:04 p.m. Sunday.
At 9:41 p.m. Saturday a fire truck and an ambulance were sent to the 4000 block of HPR on a car accident.
At 1:56 p.m. Sunday a fire department truck responded to a report of a vehicle leaking fuel at 324 Lincoln St. Emergency workers put down absorbent pads and called the owner.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Sitka medevacked a 30-year-old woman with pregnancy complications Sunday from Skagway to Juneau.
