Movie Club Set
All who are interested in the changing climate are invited to participate in a movie club sponsored by the Sitka chapter of nonpartisan Citizens’ Climate Education/Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
They can go to https://vimeo.com/351935163 to watch the free 25-minute movie, “The Sacred Place Where Life Begins” between now and Thursday, May 28.
CCE invites participants to join them for a free online, live Zoom meeting 7 p.m. May 28 to discuss the movie, climate change and action on climate change. Produced, filmed and edited by Kristin Gates and Jeremy Là Zellehen, the movie documents a four-month expedition to record the world’s longest land mammal migration through the Arctic Refuge of Alaska. They discover an ecosystem protected by the Gwich’in Nation for more than 25,000 years, yet held on the precipice of collapse by resource development corporations.
Depending on turnout and enthusiasm, future movie club nights may be planned. Those interested should mention when they send an email to get their Zoom invite.
Tribal Council
Meets May 20
Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. May 20 via teleconference. Those wanting to attend the meeting should contact Anne Davis.
The Tribal Council will hear the third reading of the Ordinance Governing Committees. Anyone wishing to submit a written comment for committees, can do so by emailing comments to Anne Davis at anne.davis@sitkatribe-nsn.gov. All written comments must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 19.
