BEAR CACHE RAID – Mt. Edgecumbe High School students, from left, Juliun Andrew, Brandon Nelson and Mattias Hautala pick up garbage near the old Harbor Mountain Road Saturday. Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game Wildlife Biologist Phil Mooney organized the cleanup of “garbage cashes,” where bears hide garbage pilfered from nearby dumpsters.  Mooney explained that this is the time of year to spot and clean up the cache sites, before foliage hides them. Anyone with information on the location of a possible cache site should contact ADF&G at 747-5449. The group on Saturday collected dozens of bags of garbage. More cleanups are planned for coming weeks. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)
