The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
June 24
A minor traffic accident at Jeff Davis and SMC was documented.
A woman said she activated the “find my iPhone” app and traced her stolen phone to Bahrt Circle, but no one answered the door. The resident allowed officers to enter, the woman called her number, and the phone was found in a bedroom. The owner said she didn’t want to press charges. Police said they would talk to the person whose room it was found in, when he gets off work.
A caller asked for help getting property back from a company. He was told it was a civil issue.
A business owner said someone was messing with his mailbox, and the postal service wouldn’t respond.
A Cascade Street caller said her home was burglarized twice in the last two weeks.
A taxi driver said a man refused to pay his fare. Police talked to the man’s girlfriend and arranged for payment. The man was told he’d be charged if it happened again.
A realty office signed a criminal trespass form against a woman.
A caller said she’d lost the keys to her vehicle, in the airport parking area. and a locksmith was making new keys.
A resident reported buying Russian trinkets and later finding through facebook that the seller is possibly involved in some sort of illegal activities.
A man was passed out behind a store was taken to the hospital.
A caller said her 4-year-old son was invited to pet a dog and the dog bit him. She said she wanted to press charges.
A caller said a bear on Granite Creek Road appears to be habituated to humans and had charged her. The bear was gone when officers arrived.
A man asked police to evict his ex-girlfriend from his home.
June 25
At 12:35 a.m. a caller said a couple appeared to be in a domestic argument and children were present. The couple separated for the night, and police forwarded a report to the DA’s office.
At 1:22 a.m. a man with a trespass order to stay out of a bar was seen there but left before officers responded.
At 9:37 a.m. two men were reported smoking something that smelled like pot in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.
A resident reported a caller claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House said he won a $5 million prize that could be redeemed if he sent in money first. He did not send money.
Police received more than a dozen complaints about parking.
A resident turned in keys left on her husband’s vehicle the night before. A name was on the keys, and the owner’s father came in to pick them up.
A woman said her shopping bag was stolen while she was shopping in another store. Officers found the staff at the second store had picked up the bag.
A guardrail was smashed at the end of Lake Street between 1 and 2:40 p.m.
A caller reported possible drug use at Starrigavan campground, but officers found no evidence of drugs.
June 26
At 12:20 a.m. screaming and shouting were heard in the Indian River subdivision. Police found a loud group using a trampoline,.
An intoxicated man passed out on Katlian was taken to the hospital.
Police cited two for having open containers early Sunday.
At 5:15 a.m. a woman flagged down police and said she was having trouble breathing. She was taken to a hospital.
The harbor department turned in a purse found on the dock. Inside were ID and $365 in cash.
At 3:53 p.m. Sitka National Historical Park staff said a man dressed in black was jumping out at visitors at the park, and scaring them.
A man said he and his wife were collecting belongings from his mother’s house and had an argument over a piece of art. He asked police to document the fact that his wife had been assaulted by his mother.
A money clip with more than $250 in it was reported lost.
A man who fell off his bike in the 1100 block of HPR at 9:46 p.m. was taken to the hospital.
At 11:31 p.m. a 911 caller asked for help at a housing unit on Katlian Street, but couldn’t say clearly what had happened. Police said there appeared to have been a fight but didn’t have enough info to press charges. The parties separated for the night. The landlord said he would resolve the problem.
June 26
At 12:36 a.m. a hospital said a patient needed to be in protective custody.
At 1:03 a.m. a caller reported some people arguing in the 900 block of HPR. Officers found no evidence of a physical fight, and gave the man a disorderly conduct warning.
A bartender signed a criminal trespass warning at 2 a.m.
At 4 a.m. a Toivo Circle resident said a man had broken into the house, and her husband had chased him out the back. Police interviewed witnesses. Nothing was missing from the home.
Bear activity was documented at 5 a.m. at Sunset and HPR.
A black and white cat was reported missing at 6 a.m. on Finn Alley.
Sitka Police
Royal T. Hudson, 25, was arrested Sunday on a trooper warrant for allegedly failing to appear in court.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:27, 4:01 and 4:44 p.m. Friday; 8:01 p.m. Saturday; 1:13 a.m., 5:15 a.m., 4:15 p.m., 9:59 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Sunday: and 6:49 and 9:32 a.m. Monday.
At 2:48 p.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to 404 SMC but it was a false alarm.
At 1:22 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to 23 Lance Drive on a house fire. (See story, page 1.)
