The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 22
An iPad was reported stolen from the downtown area on July 19.
Police stood by at a home while an Office of Children’s Services worker investigated a report of abuse in which a parent said she no longer wanted the children. The children were taken into the care of OCS.
A caller asked police to check on a relative who said she wasn’t going to be around anymore, and dropped off her vehicle. Officers talked to the woman, who said she was planning to leave town, not harm herself.
A caller complained about charter vans blocking the loading area at the airport at 2 p.m. Police saw 12 vans without drivers in them, but all left the area before they were cited.
At 6:10 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated man was riding a bike on SMC.He was gone when officers arrived.
At 6:15 p.m. police made sure an intoxicated man made it home safely.
A caller said a “chunky and short” man appeared to be stashing a full grocery bag in bushes at the end of Arrowhead Street. Officers found the bag was full of dog poop.
A caller said her son was tearing up her living room and destroying furniture, and then picked up a knife and held her down with it. The juvenile was arrested for assault in the third degree.
At 8:50 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated woman was yelling at juveniles in the 1300 block of SMC. Officers found it was a misunderstanding among the parties, and all were able to care for themselves.
At 9:07 p.m. an employee said a man had passed out behind the store. Officers found he was able to care for himself and left the area.
At 10:30 p.m. police tried to pull over a vehicle speeding on Peace Lane, but all in the vehicle ran away. The vehicle was impounded, and police are looking into the matter.
At 11:40 p.m. a fight was reported in which a man spit in a woman’s face. Harassment charges are being pursued.
July 23
Police picked up a bag of clothes and ID left under the bridge.
A hit and run was reported in the the ANB Harbor parking lot.
At 4:40 p.m. a man said his daughter found $28 at the Baranof playground.
A woman said someone on Facebook said her Texas driver’s license had been turned in. Police said it hadn’t.
At 7:10 p.m. a vehicle lost its load of plywood in the 1200 block of SMC. Officers helped resecure it.
A 7-year-old who was an hour and a half overdue was brought back home by her friend and her friend’s father, and was fine.
A possible water main break on Georgeson Loop was reported.
At 9:25 p.m. an intoxicated man was reported sitting on a stranger’s porch in the 1300 block of SMC, refusing to leave. He was taken into custody.
At 9:55 p.m. a caller reported finding a pile of clothes on the ground in Whale Park, and it appeared someone had taken off the clothes and walked into the woods. Police picked up the clothing, which was in a red tote bag.
At 10:10 p.m. a driver was reported having difficulty staying between the lines. She told officers she was having trouble driving because of the stormy weather. She showed no signs of impairment, police said.
At 11:24 p.m. a caller complained about fireworks and a party in the Sirstad Street neighborhood. Police issued a warning, and told residents to keep the noise level down.
July 24
At 10:24 a.m. a juvenile was reported to have crashed his bike, and was bleeding from his head and spitting up teeth. He was taken to the hospital, and his mother was called.
At 1:10 p.m. Sitka National Historical Park staff said a man urinated on one of the totem poles, and walked down “lovers’ lane.”
At 1:40 p.m. a store on Katlian Street asked for an ambulance for a man with chest pains. The man started driving to the hospital, the ambulance found his truck and the man jumped out of the truck and got into the ambulance for the rest of the way to the hospital.
A pair of prescription glasses was found in the 200 block of Lincoln.
Police warned a driver for allowing passengers to ride in the bed of a truck. Police took possession of the vehicle because there was no licensed driver.
Police talked to a woman at her request. She said she just needed someone to talk to and wasn’t planning to harm herself or others. She said she planned to contact a support group.
At 7:40 p.m. a caller complained about constant partying at Pioneer Park, with people drinking and smoking dope. Police talked to nine people and gave them warnings for having open containers. They were told they could continue their barbecue until the park closed. Police told one of the men charges might be filed because he’s on probation and isn’t supposed to be consuming alcohol. Criminal trespass warnings were given to three men.
July 25
At 1:13 a.m. a caller complained about five people being very loud on Andrews Street. One apologized for the noise. All was quiet when police checked 15 minutes later.
Sitka Police
Leah M. Stewart, 36, was cited Sunday for failing to have a valid license and failing to have proof of insurance.
In Court
Charges of driving with a suspended or revoked license and failing to carry insurance were dismissed against Cynthia J. Bean, 42.
A charge of driving with a revoked or suspended license was dismissed against Joshua B.R. Hart, 25.
A charge of minor consuming was dismissed against Levi S. Huffman, 19.
A charge of minor consuming was dismissed against Shandlyn M. Acker, 19.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:49, 6:08 and 8:03 p.m. Friday; 3:30 a.m., 2:07 p.m. and 11:29 p.m. Saturday; and 3:42 a.m., 10:25 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Sunday.
At 1:04 a.m. today the fire department responded to a report of a boat fire in ANB Harbor. There were no injuries. See story, page 1.
