LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 24
Police received a domestic violence order to serve.
A man said a bag containing his medication had been stolen from the front seat of his car in a grocery store parking lot.
A store employee said someone had stolen an item over the weekend, and the incident had been captured on video.
A caller asked for an ambulance for a man who was sweating heavily when he woke up and couldn’t feel his arms.
A Samsung phone found on the sidewalk at HPR and Marine Street was turned in.
At 1:17 p.m. library staff reported finding a wallet someone had dropped.
At 1:47 p.m. an ambulance was called for a 74-year-old man who had fallen and hit his head, and was bleeding on the back of his head.
A dog harness found on Jeff Davis Street was turned in.
At 3:06 p.m. a man seen stumbling down Katlian Street headed toward downtown was later seen carrying a six-pack near one of the harbors. He was stopped by police and blew a .317 on the portable breathalyzer. He was taken to the hospital. The harbor staff asked that the man not be allowed to return to his boat in the harbor unless he’s sober.
At 3:15 p.m. a caller reported two stray black and white dogs wearing ropes as collars were running at large in the 600 block of Katlian Street.
Police received a domestic violence order to serve.
At 4:20 p.m. a juvenile in a treatment program was reported to have run away. The teen was found by 4:50 p.m., and was given a ride back to the facility.
At 4:30 p.m. a hotel clerk asked about the procedures for signing a criminal trespass warning against a man. The clerk said the man was asked not to return to the hotel after he was being sexually inappropriate with staff, but he came back later and was harassing the front desk clerk.
At 9:10 p.m. a caller complained about neighbors playing loud music at DeGroff and Monastery streets. Officers were on a higher priority call at the time the complaint came in and when they responded later, all was quiet.
Police cited a driver who had accidentally run into a residence and a vehicle in the 2300 block of HPR at 9:20 p.m. No injuries were reported.
At 9:30 p.m. a caller asked for help finding an elderly woman who had gone out for a walk and hadn’t returned to her hotel as expected.
Police tagged several vehicles to be towed from the airport on Tuesday, and issued five citations for parking on Seward Street this morning.

Justin E. Keith, 33, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for a probation violation out of Georgia, for aggravated assault.
Kolby K. Sprague, 18, was cited Wednesday for negligent driving.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 10:43 a.m., 1:09 p.m., 1:47 p.m., 3:34 p.m. and 8:06 p.m. Wednesday.
At 3:18 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to 320 Seward St. after a malfunctioning hot water heater set off the smoke detector. Firefighters ventilated the area, the fire hall said.
