The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Sept. 20
At 7:18 a.m. a Harbor Mountain Road resident said she had found several Rediwip cans strewn over her and a neighbors’ lawn. She said a night checker at a grocery store told her someone had been in and bought several hundred dollars worth of Rediwip. An officer was to go talk to the checker.
At 7:41 a.m. a 911 caller reported a death.
At 9:37 a.m. a caller reported someone had gotten $402.95 from her bank account.
At 11:49 a.m. a 911 caller asked for an ambulance for a relative who had had a change of medication, and the caller hadn’t been able to wake him up for several hours. He was taken to the hospital.
At 11:55 a.m. a man said a relative was drinking despite a court order, and was constantly partying late into the night although she was supposed to be taking care of her son. An officer spoke to both, who were having an altercation, and advised them of their options.,
At 12:06 p.m. a woman turned in a dry bag that had washed up on the beach at Old Sitka Park.
At 2:36 p.m. a caller said two vehicles had been left on his lot in the 1200 block of SMC for a long time. The registered own of one said he’d given the vehicle away. The other vehicle had a junked license.
At 2:41 p.m. a caller reported drivers were speeding in the school zone in the 500 block of SMC.
At 5 p.m. a caller said a boat’s mast had broken and was hanging by a cable, in Thomsen Harbor. The harbor department was to contact the owner.
At 7:08 p.m. a 911 caller said an introxicated driver had struck another vehicle on DeGroff Street.
At 7:29 p.m. a 911 caller reported an argument with his daughter, about another child. The daughter was intoxicated but able to care for herself, and the two agreed to separate for the night.
At 8:09 p.m. a caller reported a brown dog, perhaps a chocolate Lab, was running at large in the 2000 block of HPR.
At 8:09 p.m. a caller reported a bear had crossed SMC from the Raptor Center area and gone into Sitka National Historial Park.
At 10:19 p.m. a caller said his girlfriend was intoxicated and wouldn’t let him in the house, because of something she’d seen on Facebook. An officer made contact with her but she wouldn’t open the door, and no lights were on. The man said he’d sleep in the garage, and call if there were further problems.
At 11:35 p.m. a bartender at a downtown bar said a women who was already highly intoxicated had come into the bar and hadn’t been served. She left before officers arrived, and they later found her on Barracks Street,where a friend was helping her get home.
Sept. 21
At 12:16 a.m. a caller reported hearing fireworks in the 200 block of Katlian and seeing people headed for Kaagwaantaan Street.
At 1:26 a.m. a resident in the 4100 block of HPR reported a bear might be in the area, after hearing garbage cans being tossed and the dogs barking. At 1:43 a.m. the caller reported the bear had strewn trash all over the roadway, then run off on the water side of the road. Officers were unable to contact the owners of the shared garbage container.
At 1:50 a.m. a caller who was in the 200 block of Lincoln Street reported hearing what at first she thought was gunshots then realized was fireworks.
At 1:51 a.m. a 911 caller reported hearing what sounded like shots in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. An officer found bottle rocket remains in the ANB Harbor parking lot.
At 1:58 a.m. a 911 caller in the 200 block of Marine Street reported two women had just rummaged through a shed, broken a window and several items. Officers located the two nearby.
At 5:29 a.m. a caller reported a loud party was being held on a sailboat in the 600 block of Katlian, and when the caller asked the partyers to be quieter they had used choice language, he said. Officers had to waken one of the men to be sure he was breathing. He turned down the music and officers issued a disorderly conduct warning.
At 5:53 a.m. a driver reported a bear was getting into trash cans in the bike lane in the 4000 block of HPR. He said he also saw trash strewn in the 4100 block of HPR. An officer said the trash was from an earlier bear visit. The owner of the trash can is out of town but was to arrange to have someone clean it up. Officers cleaned up most of it and took photos.
Sitka Police
Melanie L. Levens, 26, was remanded for violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol, Tuesday.
Charlie L. Bower III, 55, was charged with driving under the influence Tuesday.
Amanda Rose Skultka, 29, and Summer L. Rhinehart, 36, were charged with criminal trespass in the first degree early this morning.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 7:44 a.m., 10:32 a.m., 11:52 a.m., 4:54 p.m. and9:20 p.m.
