GriefShare Support
Group to Form
The GriefShare Support Group will meet 6-8 p.m. Mondays March 6-May 29 at Sitka Assembly of God, 214 Kimsham Street.
Anyone who has lost a loved one is invited to join the support group led by Mae Dunsing, who holds a master’s degree in counseling and bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is a counselor at Sitka Christian Counseling with more than 21 years of counseling experience.
The registration fee is $15 for a workbook and scholarships are available. Attendees can take a snack or meal to the meeting.

Unitarians Meet
George Donart, head of the Anchorage chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby, will speak at Sunday’s Unitarian Fellowship meeting.
The Citizens Climate Lobby is a nonpartisan volunteer group that is working with Congress to take action on climate change. Its mission is to protect people and help Alaska’s energy economy make a smooth transition. Donart is a commercial fisherman and retired teacher who has worked with the CCL since 2012. He has also volunteered with the National Renewable Energy Lab and helped organize the Alaska Wood Energy Conference. He is on a tour of Alaskan communities to foster interest in CCL’s work and help local people form their own chapters.
All are invited to attend. Fellowship begins at 10:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 10:45 a.m. Soup and bread follow at noon. The Fellowship Hall is at 408 Marine Street, with parking behind off Spruce Street.
‘Crossing Denali’

Sitka Public Library will host a presentation by Dr. Michael Fenner, author of the book ‘‘Crossing Denali: An Ordinary Man’s Adventure Atop North America,’’ 6 p.m. March 14.

RAC Seeking
Project Proposals
The Sitka Resource Advisory Committee is seeking proposals for projects that benefit resources, infrastructure, and/or ecosystems within the Sitka Ranger District of the Tongass National Forest.

Drill Conduction
Workshop Slated
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a 10-hour fishing vessel drill conductor workshop 8 a.m.-7 p.m. March 13 at the Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.
The workshop is for commercial fishermen and other mariners to give hands-on training with marine safety equipment and learn best practices for surviving emergencies at sea. It covers: cold-water survival skills; EPIRBs, flares and maydays; man-overboard recovery and firefighting; immersion suits and PFDs; helicopter rescue, life rafts, abandon ship procedures and emergency drills.
The workshops meet the U.S. Coast Guard training requirements for drill conductors on documented commercial fishing vessels operating beyond the federal boundary line. It is offered to commercial fishermen at no cost, with support from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Keet Gooshi Heen parent/teacher conferences will be the week of Feb. 27-March 2. Parents should check with their child’s teacher for conference date and time or call to schedule a time with their teacher.
No classes will be held on Thursday and Friday, March 2-3.
The Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled 3-5 p.m. Feb. 27-March 1 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 2. The public is invited.

Annual Meet Set
Sitka Maritime Heritage Society’s annual meeting will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the ANB Founders Hall.
A panel of Sitkans, moderated by Eric Jordan, will share stories behind Tlingit, Russian and more recent place names. Light refreshments will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event is free of charge.

Class at Hames
A free class on weight training, taught by Nick Pilch, DPT, from Sitka Physical Therapy, will be offered 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Hames Center.
All skill levels are welcome and the class is open to the public free of charge.
