LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The remaining quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief which  distributes them to places around the world in need, such as Ukraine, as part of Personal Care Kits. Chamber to Meet

Rob Allen, CEO of Sitka Community Hospital, will speak at the Sitka Chamber of Commerce luncheon noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.

The luncheon is open to the public.

 

 

Speaker Series

On Sitka History

Sitka Historical Society and Sitka National Historical Park are presenting a free speakers series.

Tamie Parker Song will speak on “The Necessity of Truth in Reconciliation” 7-8 p.m. May 17 at Sitka National Historical Park visitor center.

Steve Haycox will present ‘‘150th ‘101”’ 7-8 p.m. May 31 at Centennial Hall.

The series will continue into October as part of the 150th commemoration of the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States.

The Sesquicentennial Speakers Series is a collaborative effort between the Sitka Historical Society and Sitka National Historical Park. For more information, call Jeff Budd at 747-4821 or Ryan Carpenter at 747-0121.

 

Reception May 18

At SJ Museum

The Sheldon Jackson Museum invites the public to celebrate International Museum Day and Sheldon Jackson’s 183rd birthday 1-2 p.m. Thursday,  May 18.

The museum will offer free cupcakes, cookies and juice in the lobby area, courtesy of the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum. During the event, admission fees will be waived. For more information, call 747-8981.
