LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 17
A resident asked to talk to an officer about her son’s use of her credit card.
A B&B owner said a person posing as a client used a credit card to pay for a reservation, and when it didn’t go through gave a second card. The person then called back to cancel, and asked the owner to put the $5,000 credit on a different card. Police advised the owner to report the crime to ic3.gov, and not transfer any money.
A business owner signed a criminal trespass order against a man.
At 11:45 a.m. a driver hit the National Guard building.
A man said his former employee left town still owing him $60.
An intoxicated driver was reported on Lifesaver Drive but the vehicle was parked when police found it.
A caller said a tenant was growing marijuana in a trailer outside the apartment. Officers found the tenant was growing more than the legal limit, and his girlfriend agreed to pull out the extra plants to remain within the law. The tenant was out fishing, police said.
At 7:27 p.m. a caller said a strange man followed his teenage sister and her friend home to the 700 block of SMC., and had urinated in a bush, officers were told. He was gone when officers checked but returned around 8:10 p.m., drinking a beer in front of the residence. He agreed to leave the area when police talked to him.
A Ford key was found in the airport parking lot.
At 9 p.m. a caller reported a bear in a yard in the 2800 block of SMC.
At 9:34 p.m. a resident reported his vehicle tires were slashed in the 1200 block of SMC.
A domestic violence order was to be served.
July 18
A man having a reaction to alcohol withdrawal asked for an ambulance.
A bear was reported on Darrin Drive at 6:23 a.m., getting into a resident’s garbage for the second night in a row.
In Court
Stephen R. Ulrich, 30, was sentenced to 150 days on a charge of criminal mischief in the fourth degree. He is pay $55 in restitution. He was found to have violated probation, and must now serve 90 days of suspended time on one count, and 30 on another. Dismissed were charges of assault in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct.
Tommy R. Svilar Jr., 21, was found to have violated probation, and his probation was terminated. He is to serve 21 months immediately, and a vehicle seized in one of his cases is to be released to a third party upon proof of ownership. Two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree were dismissed.
Adam R. Allen, 51, was sentenced to 200 days, with 140 suspended, on a charge of assault in the fourth degree. He is to receive counseling and will be on probation for a year. He was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, for driving with a suspended license. He was fined $250 for violating conditions of release.
Jeffrey J. Baxter, 28, violated probation in two cases, and had more conditions added to his conditions of probation.
Sitka Police
Joseph J. Daniels, 39, was charged early today with driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 5:04 p.m. Monday and 5:49 a.m. today.
At noon Monday a fire truck was sent to 1508 SMC on a report of a water line break.
