King Fishery

Set to Close

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game today announce information concerning the salmon troll fishery.

The mark select troll fishery will close to the retention of Chinook salmon at 11:59 p.m., Friday, July 21, ADF&G said.

The MSF target harvest of 1,500 Chinook is expected to be reached by this time.

Chinook salmon harvested in the MSF must be offloaded prior to resuming trolling. Processors and trollers are required to submit fish tickets to the department within seven days of landing. A catcher-processor that retains coho salmon onboard after the MSF closure must submit a fish ticket to the department within seven days after offloading Chinook. The ticket must include an estimate of the number and pounds of other salmon species that remain onboard the vessel and a notation that estimated fish have not been offloaded.

Following the closure of the MSF, coastwide hatchery contributions to the fishery will be estimated, and a news release announcing the remaining portion of the annual troll allocation available during a second summer troll Chinook retention period will be announced during the first week of August.

Copies of the 2017 Summer Troll Fishery Management Plan may be obtained from department area offices or from the troll website.
