LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Sitka Police Department received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
Sept. 20
A caller complained a man was harassing her for payment for a cell phone. She said she had thrown it in the ocean in anger after finding it had been reported stolen and she couldn’t get service. Officers contacted the man and told him that the matter was civil. He said he understood.
A Leatherman tool was found near the Science Center. Police traced the owner, whose father was to claim it.
At 11:55 a.m. a caller reported hearing a man and woman arguing. The man denied any problems, and officers found no evidence of a crime.
At 2:26 p.m. a caller said a driver, possibly smoking pot, crossed the center line on HPR and nearly hit another vehicle. The driver told officers she swerved when she dropped her cigarette. Police found no signs of drug abuse or drunk driving.
An iPhone 6 in a blue Otter case and with a cracked screen was lost.
A keychain with a cork in it was found at Crescent Harbor parking lot.
At 6:08 p.m.a hit and run was reported at the city rifle range on Nelson Logging Road.
A social services agency reported a case of domestic violence.
A woman said she was worried about her young grandchild, but the grandchild seemed fine when police arrived, and didn’t want to be taken by the Office of Children’s Services.
At 10:48 p.m. a bus company expressed concern said two men had gone up Verstovia around 10 a.m. and hadn’t been seen by a group that was off the mountain at 7:30 p.m. Police went to the base of Verstovia, found the two men in good condition and gave them a ride home.
Sept. 21
At 1:27 a.m. a 911 caller said a woman who was drunk and belligerent had cut him with a knife. He said he had stopped bleeding and the woman no longer had the knife. An ambulance was called, and police arrested the woman. Police photographed the man’s injuries, and read him his rights as a victim.

Tera L. Nelson, 28, was charged early this morning with assault in the second degree and violating conditions of release (two counts).
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 3:11 p.m. Wednesday and 1:35 a.m. today.
At 4:27 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to 113 Jarvis St. on a false alarm.
