LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Sitka Police Department received the following calls between 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 13
At 7:47 a.m. a caller said he would like to have his neighbor on HPR be asked to start driving pilings a little later than 7 a.m. on weekends.
A caller asked for an officer to speak to his daughter’s boyfriend who’s been told he’s not welcome at the home but has been sneaking in and sleeping there.
At 11:37 p.m. a caller reported a physical fight involving five women was going on behind a downtown bar. Officers investigated and plan to forward disorderly conduct charges.
Oct. 14
A woman said she was walking her leashed dog on Lake Street when two Labs came out of a yard barking and jumping and trying to get her small dog. The Labs’ owner said she’d let them out for a potty break.
A woman said her kids were being bullied by neighborhood kids, who run away when she tries to confront them. Officers contacted the juvenile suspect but his parents weren’t home.
At 3 p.m. a man with a sleeping bag was reported lying on a bench in the 500 block of Lincoln Street. An officer awakened him and advised him to be sitting up in a public area.
At 3:18 p.m. a caller said a man and woman were yelling at each other on Monastery Street. An officer talked to a man who said he and his girlfriend were just talking, not arguing.
At 5 p.m. a caller said vehicles were parked behind a shed at Keet ballfield. An officer noted the chain across the road was broken. An officer went through a driver’s belongings and found nothing illegal.
At 7:50 p.m. multiple 911 calls came in about a fight in progress at 1209 SMC. Officers gave one man a warning and took him home.
At 9:17 p.m. a caller said her neighbors above her in an apartment home had lots of traffic from morning until night and are loud. Officers issued a disorderly conduct warning.
Oct. 15
At 12:16 a.m. a caller said a man standing outside a downtown bar was being belligerent and trying to fight people. He was reported to be wearing jeans and a black jacket, and saying he’s from Boston.
A Kake resident said his son had found an owl unable to fly and wanted to contact the Raptor Center.
A caller said a relative was on drugs and “flipping out,” and in possession of a knife. He was arrested.
Two men found sleeping behind Centennial Hall were advised they are not to be sleeping in public.
At 12:45 p.m. a couple was reported fighting, in front of children. Police saw no sign of physical contact but witnesses said one of the two was intoxicated and had swung at the other.
At 12:45 p.m. a man said a driver tried to run over him and his dog at Sharon Drive and HPR. The men gave officers conflicting statements about the incident and were advised to stay away from each other.
A man reported passed out at a bus stop was found not to be intoxicated. He told police he was just looking for a dry place to stay.
Oct. 16
At 12:10 a.m. a man said he got back on the late flight to find his car battery had been stolen at the airport parking lot.
At 2:09 a.m. an Andrew Hope Street resident reported hearing loud noises outside her home. No one was around when police checked.
Sitka Police
Scott J. Moffatt, 28, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest early Sunday.
Robert M. Brown, 20, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 10:29 a.m., 9:50 p.m. and 11:33 p.m. Friday; 10:55 a.m., 2:54 p.m. and 3:51 p.m. Saturday; 12:55 and 2:09 p.m. Sunday; and 4:25 a.m. today.
At 9:33 a.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to the Sitka National Historical Park on a false alarm.
