LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. March 12, 2018 Police Blotter
Police logged the following calls between 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. today.
March 9
A caller said he thought someone was breaking into his vehicle. Officers spoke to three individuals, who said the caller had sold them the vehicle.
At 4:30 p.m. a caller said a possibly intoxicated man was falling asleep in a grocery store food court, and when he was told multiple times to leave he started cursing. Officers took the man into protective custody.
At 5 p.m. a driver reported hitting another vehicle on Katlian.
At 8:24 p.m. a caller said a truck left the Thomsen Harbor parking lot at a high rate of speed. Police spoke to the driver, who said the wheels had spun but denied driving recklessly.
At 10:18 p..m. a caller reported hearing three explosion sounds in the area of Lance Drive and Vitskari. Officers didn’t find a possible source.
March 10
A caller asked for helping removing his son from his property. The son agreed to leave the area.
At 4 p.m. a 911 caller said she was going to commit suicide. Officers talked with a woman, who indicated another woman with a firearm might be in the area of ANB Harbor. Officers did not find her. The caller voluntarily admitted herself to a hospital.
At 7 p.m. a 911 caller said a man was lying face down on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Katlian. Officers did not find the man. They contacted several intoxicated men in the area but all were able to care for themselves.
March 11
Police helped a hotel manager fill out paperwork for criminal trespass warnings against two residents.
A 911 caller said his mother fell the day before and now seemed confused.
At 10:48 a.m. TSA reported a passenger was carrying a large amount of marijuana. Police responded.
At 8:28 p.m. a man called from out of town saying he had been unable to reach his son or the son’s mother. Police found the child was cared for.
At 9:54 p.m. a couple was reported arguing loudly. They told officers they would quiet down for the night.
A caller said his sister had taken a handful of pills. She was breathing but there was a note on the bed. She was taken to the hospital then back home.

Zachary Loewen, 27, was charged with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence, Friday afternoon.
Cynthia Joyce Bean, 44, was charged with disorderly conduct (two counts) and assault in the fourth (on a police officer) Friday.
Matthew E. Spiegle, 20, was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor Friday night.
Mark Daniel Terrades, 50, was charged with driving under the influence early Saturday morning.
Jeffrey Todd Turner, 50, was charged with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence; and criminal mischief Saturday.
Carrie Nevers, 28, was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree (two counts) and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree on Saturday.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 11:11 a.m, 5:48 p.m. and 5:52 p.m. Friday; 3:57 and 7:10 p.m. Saturday; 9:45 a.m., 5:30 p.m., 9:25 p.m. and 11:39 p.m. Sunday; and 10:15 a.m. today.
