Three Suspects Sought in HPR Shooting
By SHANNON HAUGLAND

A Sitka woman was shot and wounded in her home at 3302 Halibut Point Road Sunday in an incident police believe to be drug- or money-related.
Police took a 35-year-old Sitka man into custody, police said. The police department is asking for the public’s help in looking for three others in relation to the incident.
The identity of the man arrested at the scene was not immediately available.
“The initial information was that four suspects unlawfully entered the victim’s home, and while inside the home, one of the suspects discharged a pistol, striking the victim in the legs,” Police Chief Jeff Ankerfelt said today.
The 28-year-old woman was treated at the hospital then medevacked to Anchorage Sunday night. She was reported in stable condition today at Providence Alaska Medical Center, Ankerfelt said.
While seeking information from the public about the suspects, the chief issued a strong warning: “Do not approach them yourself.”
The three are:
– Andrea (aka “Josey”) Avalos, 22, of California, 5’4”, 195 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes.
– Peter Krovina, 39, of Sitka, 5’4”, 140 lbs., shaved head, brown eyes and a tattoo of the letter “P” on his throat.
– Christina (aka “Lete”) Quintana, 32, of California, 5’6”, 135 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes.
He asked that anyone with information call 911 or Crime Line, 747-8980; callers can remain anonymous.
Police said they received several 911 calls from the area of the shooting around 5:14 p.m. Sunday, reporting that a woman had been shot.
Two ambulances and multiple officers were sent to the address, a trailer on Halibut Point Road just before Darrin Drive, the chief said.
The wounded woman was being tended by another resident when the medics arrived, Ankerfelt said.
One man was taken into custody and the three suspects possibly involved in the incident fled sometime before officers arrived at the trailer.
The incident seems to have involved both Sitka residents and others from out of town who arrived in the last few days, the chief said.
“We think it’s drug-related, money or drugs,” he said.
Police have had contact with some of those involved in the past, Ankerfelt said.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
