TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Police received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
May 23
A caller said a kitten was missing at Eliason Harbor but it was soon found.
A purse was reported stolen on May 21 or 22 at Sitka High.
A caller complained dogs bark on Dove Island for long periods of time. The dogs’ owner was called.
At 2:27 p.m. a cruise line passenger reported losing track of her 90-year-old mother. The mom was found and back on the ship by 3:10 p.m.
At 8:24 p.m. a 911 caller said 32-year-old friend was swimming across a bay between Redoubt and Goddard hot springs to get a skiff that had gotten loose. At 8:31 the caller said the friend had arrived safely, and didn’t want help The call to the Coast Guard was canceled. The emergency response vessel went to check.
At 8:07 p.m. people were reported screaming and yelling profanities on Castle Hill. One man was taken to the hospital after he blew a PBT of .301. Police advised others to pour out their bottle of alcohol.
A man said someone stole a bank card from him at the swimming pool. He was advised of his options.
An ambulance was called for a jail inmate at 9:30 p.m. She was taken to the hospital then back to jail.
At 11:35 p.m. an intoxicated man was reported lying in the roadway on Katlian Street. He was able to care for himself and walked home.
At 11:49 p.m. a caller said a friend had said his ex was refusing to leave his house. An officer told she would be arrested if she returned to the home.
At 11:53 p.m. a store clerk reported a man stole an item, left, then returned with a woman and stole something else. The clerk told police he wasn’t sure if anything was actually stolen.

Alicia McCutcheon, 19, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for failing to appear and violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls 6:10, 8:21 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
At 8:40 p.m. Wednesday an EMS crew on the emergency response vessel checked on a man who had swum across Three Entrance Bay. He was fine and declined medical attention.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
