LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today:
July 18
At 7:58 a.m. a light blue bike was reported abandoned at a grocery store. The owner said he would pick it up.
A hit and run was reported at 1 p.m. in the ANB Harbor parking lot.
At 2:41 p.m. a woman said she told a man with a knife and a facemask outside the Eliason Harbor restrooms that he might be making people uncomfortable. He gave her a thumbs-up and went into the restroom. Officers talked to the man, who told them he was wearing the mask for “simulations,” and hadn’t pulled the knife out at any time.
At 6:28 p.m. a caller reported seeing a woman body-slamming an 8-year-old child into a car in a grocery store parking lot. The woman went to the police station to talk about the incident. Officers found no sign of a crime.
At 6:34 p.m. a caller said a man wearing headphones was walking in the middle of the driving lane on Katlian Street. Officers found no one matching the man’s description.
At 8:30 p.m. a caller said a neighbor climbed a tree on her property and cut off the top. Police advised her of her options. The caller’s location wasn’t given.
At 10:38 p.m. a man and woman were seen going through things in a yard on Kaagwaantaan Street. They were gone when police arrived.
At 10:55 p.m. an officer was flagged down at Seward and Marine streets by a woman reporting a suspicious man on Lincoln Streeet, but no one was around when police checked.
At 11:12 p.m. a caller reported a person sneaking onto a boat in Eliason Harbor, and covering the window so no one could see inside. Officers found the person was on his uncle’s boat making a phone call.
In Court
Maxwell J. DiCicco, 18, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 for driving under the influence. His license will be revoked for 90 days, he will be on probation for a year, and he is to undergo counseling. He may receive jail credit for time spent in treatment.
John P. Ihde, 39, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 for driving under the influence. His license will be revoked for 90 days, he is to receive treatment, and he will be on probation for a year.
Charles B. Baylor, 60, was fined $200 for negligent driving. He was charged originally with DUI but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department got ambulance calls at 7:43, 8:32 and 8:57 p.m. Wednesday; and 6:49, 8:02 and 8:24 a.m. today.
