LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The remaining quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief which  distributes them to places around the world in need, such as Ukraine, as part of Personal Care Kits. August 15, 2018 Police Blotter

The following calls came in as of 8 a.m. today.
Aug. 15
    At 9 a.m. a caller said an elderly man on Lake and Lincoln streets was asking for a ride to the mill, and the caller was concerned about his safety. He was returned to his home.
    At 11:14 a.m. a caller said cans were being thrown from a vehicle in the 1700 block of HPR.
    A caller reported losing a blue backack and duffle continuing work clothes and a camo belt pouch containing a prescription, in the Herring Cove Road area.
    A woman said her camera lens that she lost the week of July 23 apparently was stolen as it had not been turned in.
    At 3:44 p.m. people were reported doing boxing practice at the skate park. Officers advised them it would be better to find a softer place to practice.
    At 3:57 p.m. a 911 caller said a woman was having a seizure on her front lawn. She was taken to a hospital.
    Harbors staff reported a man who was criminally trespassed was at the harbor. Officers confirmed the man was employed on a boat, and Harbors said he    could be at the harbor for the duration of his employment.
    At 4:54 p.m. a woman said a driver had nearly run her over while she was on the bike path at Indian River.
    At 5 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated woman had stumbled off the sidewalk in the 200 block of Harbor Drive. Officers contacted the woman, who provided a PBT of .298 and asked to go to a hospital.
    At 5:37 p.m. a caller said a small amount of oil appeared to have been spilled on the ground at the Starrigavan boat launch. A Park Service officer said he would check it out.
    At 6:53 p.m. a caller said a man had come into a restaurant and started screaming at his girlfriend, a waitress, and demanding she come with him. The caller said his girlfriend and other staff members were scared of the man, and the woman went with him. The caller asked for a welfare check on the woman. An officer talked to all parties, who said it was a misunderstanding and not a domestic issue. The woman’s brother was told he wasn’t welcome at the woman’s residence.
    At 7:08 p.m. a 911 caller reported a single-vehicle accident with no apparent injuries, but the car was in a ditch in the 1800 block of HPR.
    At 8 p.m. a driver said he’d struck a juvenile on a bicycle near St. Michael’s. An officer found no damage or injuries.
    A black  SUV was reported parked in the middle of the road on Monastery Street. It was gone when officers arrived.
    At 10:24 p.m. a caller said a woman was entering and exiting his neighbor’s house, although the neighbor is out of town. An officer found a woman passed out on the front porch. She was taken into protective custody.
    At 11:22 p.m. a caller said a woman had assaulted  him earlier in the day. However, he did not wish to press charges.
    August 16
    A caller reported a loud party on Spruce Street and asked police to drive through in hopes the party would see and quiet down. An officer went to the area but found no loud parties.
    At 3:19 a.m. a caller said a woman dressed only in panties and a night shirt was on the side of the road. An officer took her to a nearby house, located her caretaker, and ensured they were safe.


In Court
    Jason Daniel Svilar, 24, on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance was fined $1,500 and ordered to complete substance abuse treatment. His license was revoked for 90 days. An Audi was returned to its owner and seized contraband and drugs were forfeited to the investigative agency. He will be on probation for one year.
