LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Self-Serve Hours
At Job Center
Sitka Job Center will have limited services Sept. 24-Oct. 8.
Staff will not be available to assist customers, but the center will be open for self-serve.
Customers can use the computers, fax, copier, printer, unemployment hotline and other services for job search and work purposes.
A sign is posted with contact information for the Juneau Job Center for customers who are in need of further assistance.
Youth Advocates
Board to Meet
Youth Advocates of Sitka’s board of directors will meet 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at YAS’s 805 Lincoln Street office.
The meeting is open to the public.

Volunteer positions are available on the following municipal boards and commissions: Animal Hearing Board, Gary Paxton Industrial Park Board of Directors, Health Needs and Human Services Commission, Library Commission, Local Emergency Planning Commission, Planning Commission, Police and Fire Commission, Port and Harbors Commission, and Tree and Landscape Committee.

Tribal Council
Seats Available
The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will hold a general election Nov. 13 to elect a Tribal chair and four Tribal Council seats.
Candidacy packets are available at the STA offices, 456 Katlian Street. Tribal citizens seeking office shall file Notice of Candidacy and related materials with the election supervisor no later than 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12.
Sacred Harp
Sing Sept. 23
The fourth Sunday Sacred Harp Sing will be 3:30-5 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Pioneers Home Chapel.
All are invited to learn to sing four-part a cappella harmony in an American tradition dating back hundreds of years. Beginners and listeners are welcome. Singing will be from the red Denson book, and loaner books are available. For information, call Kari at 738-2089.

Seeks Proposals
The Alaska Food Policy Council and the Alaska Farmers Market Association are co-hosting the Alaska Food Festival and Conference March 8-9 in Homer.
Presentation proposals are being sought and must be submitted by Oct. 31.
