Wolves, Braves Wrestlers Battle in Anchorage

The Mt. Edgecumbe High Braves and Sitka Wolves grapplers took part in the Anchorage Christian School Denali Auto Glass Invite wrestling tournament last weekend.
Edgecumbe’s Haley Osborne continued his dominance on the mat with a championship at 285 pounds.
Of the 43 Division II high school teams competing, Sitka placed eighth with 105 team points and Mt. Edgecumbe 10th with 92 points.
Bethel won the meet with 154 points. Wrangell was the top Southeast school, placing seventh with 113 points. Craig placed 14th, Petersburg 25th and Metlakatla 31st.
Top individual SE placers included Osborne winning the 285 pound championship;
Sitka’s Maximus Johnson sixth in the 215 weight; Wrangell’s Dillon Rooney second and Sitka’s John Welsh sixth at 189 pounds; Craig’s Wayland Patton fourth at 171 pounds; Petersburg’s Kole Sperl third at 160 pounds; Wrangell’s Hunter Wiederspohn third at 152 pounds; Mt. Edgecumbe’s Leon Evon fourth and Sitka’s Gavin Hammock fifth at 145 pounds; Sitka’s Jacob Gagner third and Craig’s Timber Patton fifth at 140 pounds; Mt. Edgecumbe’s Lloyd Ayojiak third at 130 pounds; Wrangell’s Jonah Comstock third at 112 pounds; and Wrangell’s Ryan Rooney won the 103 pound title with Sitka’s Colton Ewers third.
Tonight is the Sitka wrestling team’s senior appreciation night. The Wolves will honor their upperclassmen at 5:45 p.m. on stage at the PAC.
A dual match with Mt. Edgecumbe will follow, also on stage at the PAC.
