LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Police Blotter
Police received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
December 6
A skinny black dog was reported running at large on Katlian Street.
A downtown bank asked police to document graffiti on the window.
Two cats were taken to the shelter.
At 12:31 p.m. a minor traffic accident with no damage was reported in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.
A wallet was turned in.
A phone was found in the Crescent Harbor restroom. Police charged the phone and found the owner’s number.
At 2:51 p.m. a caller said he told a man shooting at the turnout just before the Green Lake gate that he wasn’t supposed to be shooting there, but the man told him the shooting range was closed and he couldn’t wait. The information was passed on to the Forest Service law enforcement division.
At 3:51 p.m. a man was asked to leave a Lincoln Street building because he was asking for money. Police said he was intoxicated but able to care for himself, and was told to stop asking people for money.
At 6:10 p.m. a man was reported cutting down trees at Herring Cove. He told officers the city doesn’t require permits. Public works staff said the city isn’t issuing permits, and no one should be cutting down trees on city property.
At 6:16 p.m. a man was reported driving on the wrong side of the road on Katlian Street. The driver was not impaired and said he had been driving slowly and not erratically.
At 6:55 p.m. a man reported passed out on a Harbor Drive bench was awakened by police, and left the area.
At 7:15 p.m. a resident called an ambulance for her neighbor.
At 7:24 p.m. a driver hit a deer in the 1000 block of SMC and called police, while a passerby moved the dead animal to the side of the road. It will be donated during business hours, police said. The vehicle was not damaged.
At 7:53 p.m. a man at a corner table of a restaurant was reported hissing and grunting, and scaring customers. He was taken into protective custody due to his level of intoxication and inability to care for himself, officers said.
At 9:38 p.m. a woman was reported stumbling near Alder Way and HPR. After she provided a PBT of .290, officers gave her a ride home and left her in the care of her boyfriend.
At 10:35 p.m. police called an ambulance for an intoxicated and unconscious man at ANB Harbor.
December 7
At 12:32 a.m. a 911 caller reported a woman screaming in a Burkhart Street apartment. Police talked to the woman, who was yelling, and told her she was safe. There were no signs of injury or that she was unable to care for herself.
Five vehicles were cited in the 200 block of Lincoln Street.
Sitka Police
A juvenile was arrested on charges of assault in the fourth degree (two counts), criminal mischief in the fifth degree and resisting arrest Thursday evening. The case was turned over to the juvenile probation officer.
Gordon Paul, 56, was cited Thursday for having an open container.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 5:43 p.m., 7:13 p.m. and 10:38 p.m. Thursday.
In Court
A charge of assault in the fourth degree was dismissed against Theron N. Parrish, 31.
Allana L. Swanberg, 26, was fined $150 for concealment of merchandise. A charge of criminal trespass was dismissed.
A charge of assault in the fourth degree was dismissed against Rafael R. Allensworth, 54.
