LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police Blotter
Police received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
December 7
At 9:06 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in the Kimsham field dugout. Officers woke him up and he left.
At 9:21 a.m. a 911 caller said his vehicle had broken down in the middle of the road at 203 Lake St.
At 10:22 a.m. a driver said a van cut him off in the 1800 block of HPR, nearly causing an accident. Officers gave the van driver a verbal warning.
The Raptor Center was informed of an injured seagull in the road on HPR.
At 1:49 p.m. a person in a skiff was reported waving an orange jerry jug between Middle and Magic islands off the 3200 block of HPR. The Coast Guard said help was on the way.
A gas station said a man who’d agreed to return and pay for gas hadn’t returned. Dispatch talked to the man, who agreed to return and pay.
At 3:32 p.m. a 911 caller said a power line was on the roadway on Airport Road. GCI was advised.
At 9:20 p.m. a caller said he was giving a man $5 for alcohol in the 700 block of HPR when the man grabbed the wallet and ran off.
At 11 p.m. an intoxicated man on the Japonski work float provided a PBT of .359 and was taken to a hospital.
December 8
At 12:11 a.m. a Boston Whaler was reported in the tide pool at totem park. A message was left for the owner.
A caller said a woman took his keys the previous night and was refusing to give them back until he repaid her $100. He was told it was a civil issue.
At 9 p.m. a caller said his GCI work van was stolen from his driveway. While he was on the line police received multiple 911 calls reporting the van had crashed into a ditch at SMC and Price Street. Officers searched the area and talked to witnesses.
December 9
At 1:43 a.m. a taxi driver said he couldn’t wake up a man in the back seat. An officer was able to wake him.
At 2:26 a.m. a taxi driver said a customer became aggressive in the cab then kicked it after getting out. An officer spoke to both parties.
At 8:58 a.m. a woman was reported nearly hit by a car as she walked in the middle of Lincoln Street.
A bank card found in the Swan Lake area was turned in.
At 1 p.m. a woman with a blank look and possibly no pants was reported in the Erler Street neighborhood. Another call about the woman was received shortly later. Police took her to the hospital to be checked out by a doctor.
At 2:09 p.m. a woman was reported to have head-butted a man. He was seen getting into her car but she then tried to get him out. A records check showed she was under conditions of release not to reside with the man. Officers found no signs of a crime.
At 2:29 p.m. a 911 caller reported a couple fighting. They were separated when officers arrived, and the man could be heard saying it was verbal only, about a phone being taken away. An officer gave a woman a ride home.
A 911 caller asked for EMS for a diabetic who had drunk alcohol the night before, and had refused to take his insulin since the day before. The man refused EMS transport.
At 10:11 p.m. a caller said three males were smoking an unknown substance inside a SMC business. Officers spoke to the three, who agreed to leave.
Police gave a warning to a man playing loud music on Lake Street. He agreed to turn it down.
At 11:58 p.m. a caller said she was very upset that she had been contacted earlier, and she wasn’t feeling well. She was given a ride to a hospital.
December 10
At 4:55 a.m. TSA said a loaded firearm was in checked luggage. An officer took the ammo from the luggage.
Sitka Police
Peter Michael Roddy, 66, was arrested Friday on a charge of driving under the influence.
Joseph D. Castro, 41, was charged Sunday with criminal trespass in the second degree (domestic violence).
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 11:14 p.m. Friday; 11:09 a.m. and 1:24 p.m. Saturday; 1:10 a.m. and 5:08 Sunday; and 10:27 a.m. today.
