Swing Dance
Classes Updated
The March 26 swing dance class has been canceled and postponed until 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 29.
Regular classes resume 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 2-30, at 208 Smith Street.
The class will be on summer break May 1 through Sept. 30. Weekly classes resume Oct. 1.
Admission is $5 per couple. Participants should wear inside shoes to protect the dance floor.
Spring Art Walk
Introduces Artists
Greater Sitka Arts Council’s Spring Art Walk is planned 5-8 p.m. April 5.
Among the participants will be Island Artists Gallery, 205 Lincoln St., featuring new artists Kate Cluff with her stained glass pieces, and David Gross, and his contemporary acrylic paintings. New works by all members also will be on view.
Vern Culp, Richard McNeilley and Larry McCrehin will be performing original music and covers, and appetizers, libations and music will be offered.
State Budget
Hearing Sunday
Sitkans have an opportunity to weigh in on the governor’s proposed budget before the state’s House Finance Committee 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Centennial Hall.
The governor’s proposed budget would have impacts on Sitkans.
Testimony may be limited to one minute per person, depending on the number of people wishing to testify.
Museum Closure
The Sheldon Jackson Museum will be closed on Tuesday, March 26, in observance of Seward’s Day.
Winter hours will resume 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The discounted winter admission is $5, and $4 for seniors. Visitors 18 years of age and younger, Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum, and those with passes are admitted free.
School Board Meets
Members of the Sitka School Board will hold a budget work session 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at the District Office Board Room.
No public testimony or action will be taken at this work session.
Hames, SEARHC
Class for Seniors
Hames Center is partnering with SEARHC Health Promotion to offer a free eight-week senior well-balanced class noon-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 2.
It is open to ages 60 years and older. The class will focus on strength and balance to prevent falls. Space is limited. Register at Hames Center or call 747-5080 for more details.
SSSC Closure
The Sitka Sound Science Center will be closed on Saturday, March 23.
