Sitka High School Students Receive Scholarships, Awards
Sitka High School held its annual Awards Ceremony for the graduating class on May 13 in the school commons.
Opening remarks were given by Principal Laura Rogers. Presentation of school awards, and community and college scholarships followed.
Sitka High Service Awards were given by Rogers to Karina Belcher, Erin Blankenship, Bailey Clifton, Ella Lubin, Kyleigh McArthur, Skyler McIntyre, Joseph Pate, Aaní Perkins, Lucy Poulson, Morgan Simic, Avery Voron and Olivia Wilcox.
Principal’s Awards were presented by Rogers to Jessica Davis, Angelina Doggett, Abigail FitzGibbon, Harry Lysons III and Austin Morrison.
Most Representative Boy and Girl Awards were given by Rogers to Jacob Gagner and Princess Joei Vidad.
Sitka CHARR ($5,000) scholarships were presented by Keith Perkins to Abigail FitzGibbon, Mattey Stroemer and Princess Joei Vidad.
Holland America/Princess Cruise Line Scholarship ($4,000) given by Ralph Samuels to Bailey Clifton, Lucy Poulson and Princess Joei Vidad.
Sealaska Heritage Scholarships were presented by David Goade to Haley Bartolaba ($2,136), Erin Blankenship ($1,424), Nyla Duncan ($1,424) and Aaní Perkins ($2,768).
The Delta Western Petroleum Scholarship ($10,000 over four years) was given by Mike Johnson to Bailey Clifton.
The Sitka Scholarship in honor of Tadao Sasayama for $20,000 over four years was presented by Thad Poulson to Kyleigh McArthur, Aaní Perkins, and Princess Joei Vidad.
Haley Bartolaba, Erin Blankenship, Aaní Perkins were given the Shee Atika Scholarship ($2,400).
UA Scholars ($12,000 over eight semesters) were presented to Bailey Clifton, Abigail FitzGibbon, Ella Lubin, Kyleigh McArthur, Joseph Pate, Aaní Perkins and Lucy Poulson.
Ella Lubin was presented the BP Principal’s Scholarship ($5,000.)
National Merit Scholar Awardees ($2,500 & $1,000/year) were presented by Rogers to Abigail FitzGibbon.
Haley Bartolaba, Nyla Duncan, Aaní Perkins and Mattey Stroemer were presented Sitka Tribe of Alaska ($2,000 each) scholarships by Lesa Way and KathyHope Erickson.
The Sitka Education Association ($500) scholarship was given by Roxanne Gagner to Jessica Davis, Jacob Gagner, Garrison Lass, Brayden Massey-Jones and Kyleigh McArthur.
Jessica Davis was given the Masonic, Scottish Rite and Sitka Shrine Club ($1,000/year for four years) by Jerald Neal.
Southeast Alaska Board of Realtors Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded by Nancy Davis to Abigail FitzGibbon.
Abby Forrester received the Sitka Education Support Professionals Association $200 scholarship.
Ocean Wave Quilters Guild’s Bonnie Richards presented Princess Joei Vidad with its $1,000 scholarship.
The Chuck Parsley Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded by Ariel Starbuck and Rob Parsons to Kyleigh McArthur.
The Ken Osbakken Memorial Scholarship ($500) was presented by Starbuck and Parsons to Kyleigh McArthur.
Jessica Davis was presented the Ron Rhodes Scholarship ($500) by Lois Rhodes.
The ALPS Scholarship ($1,250) was presented by Sandi Riggs to Haley Bartolaba, Garrison Lass, Erin Blakenship and Jacob Gagner.
Kyleigh McArthur received the Excellence in Science Award from Rob Parsons.
The Wall of Champions Inductees were announced by Rich Krupa. They are Karina and Kiana Belcher (Music); Garrison Lass (Track); Haley Bartolaba (Track); Ella Lubin (Music); and Abigail FitzGibbon (DDF).
Ambassador’s Award were presented by Rogers to Yulvie Nuri, Amra Kojic, Mohan Raj Arul, Nisreen Jehka and Tamara Zankiz Becerra.
Individual College Awards were announced by Starbuck and Parsons. They include:

–Erin Blankenship, Mississippi State University Loyalty Scholarship $1,000 and the Kittrel Endowed Scholarship $1,000;

–James Comas, Simpson University, Redding, California, Baseball Scholarship $10,500;

–Taylor Helem, Northern Arizona University Blue Scholarship $4,000/year;
–Cole Riggs, Whitworth University, Spokane, Washington, $24,000/year;
–Mattey Stroemer, University of Idaho WUE Achievement Award $14,116/year and Mary Hall Niccolls Award $1,500;
–Avery Voron, Montana State University Achievement Award, $12,000/year;
