LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
August 13
The ACO took an older husky that was loose on Wachusetts Street to its home.
The ACO took custody of a feral kitten found at 1719 SMC.
Several callers reported being called by someone claiming to be from Social Security.
A credit card found on Mosquito Cove Trail was turned in.
A caller said he’d been on the phone for the past couple of hours with someone claiming to be from Social Security, which has some fraud in another state. Police told the caller Social Security wouldn’t call him if there was an issue, and he should report the inciddent to ic3.gov
A resident turned in a dry bag found in the woods between Verstovia Avenue and the high school. It contained miscellaneous items including hoochies, flashers and a pair of men’s jeans. It was placed into evidence.
At 5:48 p.m. a caller reported a group of kids and intoxicated people at the skate park. An officer talked to two women, one of whom appeared to have been drinking but denied drinking around the children. The officer also talked to two juveniles and pointed out the sign stating those riding in the park must wear helmets.
At 5:50 p.m. a caller said a man tried to start a fight in a bar with a customer who had tied up a dog outside. The man accused the customer of stealing his dog, but left after being told police had been called. Officers talked to the man on the sidewalk, gave him a disorderly conduct warning, and told him he was not to be in any bars or liquor stores for the rest of the night. He said he’d be heading home.
At 6:16 p.m. a highly intoxicated man said someone was using his cell phone. An officer spoke with the man, who had lost his phone, and advised him since it was a passcode it was doubtful anyone was using it.
At 6:45 p.m. a caller said a woman in a white hoodie was beating on someone outside at 330 Seward. Officers spoke with someone outside the Moose, who said a woman in a white hoodie had just left in a red SUV. Officers were unable to find her.
At 6:37 p.m. a caller said her upstairs neighbors have been loud at all hours of the night for several months and she’s not able to sleep. She said she’d told her landlord but nothing was done. She was advised of her options.
At 8 p.m. a caller said she was driving behind someone who appeared to be intoxicated, swerving and speeding up then slowing down.
A hotel requested a criminal trespass order against an individual.
At 11:14 p.m. a caller said her daughter had run away from home. An officer contacted the daughter, at a friend’s house. The mom picked her up.
August 14
At 12:06 a.m. a caller said a woman who appeared to be intoxicated was asking him to buy her more alcohol, at 1200 SMC. An officer contacted the woman, who was alert and close to home, where she was headed.
At 12:26 a.m. a caller in the 2500 block of HPR reported hearing a man and woman arguing, and it appeared the man was getting physically violent with the woman before they both got in an SUV and left. Officers were advised.
At 1:42 a.m. a caller asked for help with a teenage daughter. The girl was taken to the hospital.
At 2:34 a.m. a caller at Crescent Harbor said she and her husband were awakened when they heard someone boarding their boat. They found it was a man they didn’t recognize and he had fallen asleep. Police took him into protective custody.
At 6:06 a.m. a caller said a group of individuals hanging around Pioneer Park seemed to be acting suspicious. They were gone when officers arrived.
At 6:15 p.m. a caller said a woman was stumbling down the road in the 2000 block of SMC and appeared to be intoxicated. She was gone when officers arrived.
At 6:17 p.m. a caller said a woman staggering into the road might be intoxicated. No location was given on the police report.

Michael P. Busby, 32, was charged with driving under the influence Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 5:10 p.m.,9 p.m. and 10:13 p.m. Tuesday, and 12:36 a.m. and 1:51 a.m. today.
