Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
October 14
Items turned into lost and found at a grocery store were left with police. Items included six bank cards, a Quest card, 5 Ids, a social security card, a passport and a cracked Samsung in a green and white case.
A caller complained a car with a loud muffler speeds up and down Darrin Drive. An officer advised the driver of the complaint and asked him to take care of his mechanical issue.
A bartender asked to sign a trespass order against a woman.
A trespass order was signed against a shoplifter caught twice on camera at a store. No charges were pursued by the store manager.
Police called the post office about mailboxes on Monastery Street.
At 5:13 p.m. a caller said a quonset hut was rolling down Price Street, possibly about to cause damage. Officers contacted the owner.
A silver folding knife was turned in.
Police received a call from an Edmonds, Wash., Pizza Hut confirming an order. Police told the caller it must have been a prank. A second call came in 2 minutes later, also from Edmonds.
At 10:11 p.m. several callers reported a tree in the road near the top of Shotgun Alley. DOT cut and removed the tree from the road, where it had been blocking both lanes of traffic.
A resident asked for help finding the correct agency to help her because she’s being stalked. Police gave her the SAFV Shelter number.
At 10:54 p.m. a bear was reported in a Lakeview Drive yard. It was gone when police arrived.
October 15
At 1:30 a.m. a syringe was found in the 1800 block of HPR.
Officers gave open container warnings to a group on O’Connell Bridge.
At 5:55 a.m. a caller asked for help finding her daughter, who was staying on a boat at Camp Coogan.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched an ambulance at 1:52 p.m. Monday.
At 11:30 p.m. Monday two search and rescue members volunteered to help search for two overdue hunters in Seymour Canal. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka decided against flying Monday night, and instead left early today, arriving just as the hunters walked out of the woods on their own, Fire Chief Dave Miller said.
The helicopters, with SAR volunteers Eric Matthes and Dane McFadden aboard, were en route to Sitka on a Coast Guard helicopter around 11 a.m., the fire chief said.
