LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
November 12
At 7:19 a.m. a caller said a man was sleeping in the mechanical corral behind the library. An officer found no one in the area. Public works was advised.
At 7:40 a.m. a caller said a motorcyclist had been speeding down HPR, racing past other vehicles.
The Office of Public Advocacy said a male they’d been given guardianship over had been taken from the state by his biological mother, who was unhappy with the court and is believed to have gone to Seattle in May.
An officer asked for a DR for agency assistance for Seward PD.
At 3:08 p.m. a traffic accident with no injuries but some damage was reported at 514 HPR.
At 4:36 p.m. library staff said a male was being loud and refusing to follow instructions. A second caller said a male was outside the library yelling obscenities and arguing with someone. He left before officers arrived.
At 5:11 p.m. a medical center said a patient was trying to leave who wasn’t under a hold but had an IV still attached.
At 8 p.m. a caller said a man in town keeps causing problems and scaring people, and had just had a verbal altercation at the library. Dispatch contacted the library staff, who explained a similar situation and advised they had notified their supervisor that the male had left. The caller noted that if the PD didn’t “chase this guy out of town, he will.”
At 9:23 p.m. a caller said an alarm had gone off on a boat with no one aboard, at Eliason Harbor. Dispatch advised harbors staff, who will contact the owner.
Sitka Police
Oleana Valley, 20, was arrested on a warrant for a new charge of violating conditions of release.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 11:04 a.m., 6:31 p.m. and 11:58 p.m. Tuesday, and 7:27 a.m. today.
In Court
Troy Dismas Mayer, 53, on a charge of assault in the fourth degree, recklessly injure, was sentenced to 12 months with seven suspended. On a charge of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, property damage, he was sentenced to 30 days, suspended. He is to be on probation until Oct. 7, 2022. On a charge of violating conditions of probation he was sentenced to 60 days, suspended. On a charge of unlawful contact per court ordered he was sentenced to one year, suspended. Charges of assault in the second degree, injury with weapon; and eight counts of unlawful contact per court ordered were all dismissed.
Lars O Hilde, 23, of Bigfoot, Montana, was convicted of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 240 days with 180 suspended. He was fined $4,000, ordered to complete treatment, and his driver’s license was revoked for three years. After driving privileges are restored he is to have an ignition interlock device installed for 1.5 years. He is to be on probation for two years.
Brian W. Bernhardt, 27, was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 30 days with 27 suspended, fined $1,500, ordered to complete an evaluation and recommended treatment. His driver’s license is to be revoked for 90 days and after regaining his driving privileges he is to use an ignition interlock device for six months. He is to be on probation for one year.
