RESTORATION WORK – Father Herman Belt keeps an eye on Lincoln Street traffic this morning as workers use a Snorkel Lift to pull rotten pieces of trim from the facade of St. Michael’s Cathedral. Several pieces recently had fallen off the cathedral, which dates to 1976, causing concerns about other pieces possibly falling off and hitting pedestrians. Belt says the plan is to fabricate new wooden trim and properly flash it. East bound traffic was diverted up American Street during today’s work. Contractors may close the street again Wednesday morning. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Second Candidate for Assembly Withdraws
By Sentinel Staff
Dennie Daniels today became the second Assembly candidate to withdraw from the Oct. 7 city election.
City Clerk Colleen Ingman said she received a call this morning from Daniels, who said he has just started a new job “which didn’t afford him the time to do a good job as an Assembly member.”
Richard Parmelee, another candidate on the ballot, told Ingman on Sept. 2 that he wished to withdraw from the race.
Ingman said in her note to the Sentinel about Daniels: “Similar to Richard Parmelee, I told him it is too late to officially withdraw after the filing has closed and that his name will still appear on the ballot, but that I would notify the media and others of desire to withdraw.”
The final day to withdraw from the race was Aug. 8, the same as the filing deadline.
There are still five candidates in the race for two seats on the Assembly: Thor Christianson, Aaron Wamsley, Lillian Feldpausch, Tristan Guevin and Steven Eisenbeisz, who is Daniels’ stepson.
The winners will replace Mike Reif and Pete Esquiro, whose terms are expiring and who did not seek re-election.
Tom Conley and Tim Fulton are running unopposed for School Board. Candidates for mayor are incumbent Mim McConnell and Orion Hughes-Knowles.
