The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 20
Police checked on a man reported sleeping in his vehicle.
A woman said her vehicle had been broken into and items stolen in the 400 block of Sawmill Creek Road. Police said the items reported stolen were still in the vehicle.
A woman said she lost a wallet containing credit cards, ID and $180 in cash, while grocery shopping.
At 11:31 p.m. police checked on a man reported wearing a head lamp and looking into vehicles at the airport. Police talked to the man and determined there was nothing suspicious going on.
Oct. 21
At 12:53 a.m. a caller said a bear was tearing up garbage on Thomas Young Sr. Street, in the Indian River subdivision. Police were able to get the bear to leave the area.
At 3:15 a.m. a 911 caller reported a woman screaming on Burkhart Street. She was taken into protective custody.
At 4:02 a.m. a bear was reported tearing up garbage and strewing it about the Andrew Hope Street area. It was gone when police checked.
Sitka Police
Justin W. Skultka, 31, was arrested Monday for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree for alleged possession of a fentanyl patch, police said.
Kelly M. Durgan Jr., 32, was arrested Monday on a Ketchikan warrant for allegedly failing to report to the Ketchikan Correctional Center on an assault charge. He was also charged with violating conditions of release by allegedly consuming alcohol and failing to be in 24-hour sight and sound contact with a particular person.
In Court
Charges of violating conditions of release (two counts) were dismissed against Ann M. Morris, 31.
Chatham L. Conner, 19, was fined $1,500, with $1,000 suspended, for failing to salvage all edible meat on a blacktail deer left on Eagle Beach. He will be on probation for a year.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched an ambulance at 1:57 p.m. Monday.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
