LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 17
A caller asked officers to check her home because she believed a son might have broken in. Officers found two men at the home and confirmed with the caller it was OK.
At 1:39 p.m. a caller said a man who appeared confused was wandering in the rain without a shirt on. Officers left him in the care of relatives.
A caller said a possibly intoxicated woman might hurt herself. Police found she was OK and not intoxicated.
At 11:34 p.m. a caller said a man wearing dark pants and a dirty shirt was looking into a neighbor’s storage on Price Street. About an hour later she called to say the man was now trying to get into her house. Officers were unable to find the man in the area. The caller’s ex-husband agreed to stay with her for the night.
July 18
At 12:48 a.m. a caller said a woman and two men were walking down a road in the 3500 block of HPR. None had shoes on and the woman appeared to be crying. The caller said he offered the woman a ride but she declined assistance. The three were gone when officers arrived.
At 12:55 a.m. a bartender said a man who wouldn’t provide ID was refusing to leave. Officers found him at ANB Harbor with three other men. All were of age.
At 2 a.m. a caller on Lance Street said a man who had been trying to get into the caller’s ex-wife’s home had returned and was in the driveway. The man was gone when officers arrived.
At 7:13 a.m. a caller said his neighbor had left for a hike Thursday and still wasn’t home. The man’s wife told police he was with friends at a cabin.
A caller dropped off a drone found in Crescent Harbor.
At 12:59 p.m. a man was reported hanging off the outside of O’Connell Bridge. Officers found the man, who had jumped off the bridge and swam to shore, and gave him a warning. He told them he often jumps off the bridge and wasn’t trying to hurt himself.
A man said a woman had stumbled into traffic in the 1700 block of HPR. She was put in protective custody.
A caller said she found oily fingerprints on her boat engine, at Crescent, and now it won’t start.
At 10:18 p.m. a bartender said a woman was refusing to leave. She left before officers arrived. Her jacket and cell phone were taken to the PD.
At 10:33 p.m. callers complained fireworks were being shot off on Lakeview Drive. Officers warned residents about lighting off fireworks.
July19
At 5:26 a.m. TSA asked that confiscated ammunition be picked up.
At 9:31 a.m. a caller said her vehicle was stolen from Eliason Harbor. Officers located it on the work float.
At 8 p.m. a caller said his brother followed a driver, going very slowly and swerving, into a parking lot, where he was now sleeping and might be intoxicated. The driver was not intoxicated and just wanted a place to camp, he told police. Officers directed him to campgrounds.
At 10 p.m. a 911 caller reported a verbal altercation with a sister-in-law. They agreed to separate for the night.
July 20
At 1:16 a.m. a 911 caller said she and her granddaughter, who are from out of town, had been walking into town from Viking Way and now were lost and couldn’t go any farther. Officers determined they were in the 2200 block of HPR and dispatched a cab.
At 4:50 a.m. a caller said a man was sitting in a Chevy pickup in the Castle Hill parking lot screaming and banging his head. Officers found the man had dried blood on his hands and face and some facial injuries. He refused medical treatment and was advised not to be sleep in the vehicle. He was given a disorderly conduct warning.
At 5:18 a.m. a Spruce Street resident said her tan and white Jack Russell terrier had just run away, and she had to catch the 6 a.m. flight.
Sitka Police
Alex Petro, 27, was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree and in the third degree Friday afternoon.
Cory Allen Mickelson, 34, was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second and third degrees Friday afternoon.
Chelsey Nichole Lysons, 21, was charged Friday afternoon with tampering with physical evidence and misconduct involving controlled substances in the fourth degree.
Alfonso Suarez, 29, was charged with criminal mischief in the fifth degree and criminal trespass in the first degree.
Christopher A. Everhart, 23, was charged with assault in the fourth degree-domestic violence, and two counts of violating conditions of release for drinking and committing a jailable offense.
In Court
An amended judgment of commitment-probation was given in the case of Samuel D. Petro, 23. On a Jan. 31, 2014, charge of theft in the second degree – firearm-explosives, a class C felony, he was sentenced to nine months with five suspended for a total composite sentence of 18 months with 12 suspended. The composite sentence in all cases is 78 months with 48 suspended, and a fine of $2,000, suspended.
Brandon J. Doucet, 23, on charges of harassment I – touching genitals, and harassment I – touching genitals, buttocks and breast pleaded guilty was sentenced to 60 days with 59 suspended and fined $1,000 with $750 suspended on each of the two counts. The sentences are concurrent. He will be on probation one year, and is to get behavioral health evaluation.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls Friday. On Saturday it received several calls after 6 p.m. about smoke coming from a boat seen off the 1800 block of HPR, but there was no fire.
