The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 19
A dead tabby cat was picked up from the road in the 1700 block of HPR.
An intoxicated man on a bench on Siginaka Way was placed in custody.
The juvenile probation officer asked for help with two juveniles.
A grocery store clerk signed a criminal trespass form against a person.
At 4:29 p.m. a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on O’Connell Bridge. An ambulance was called, and a driver was cited for negligent driving and failing to have proof of insurance.
At 4:14 p.m. police checked on a report of an accident at Indian River Road and Sawmill Creek Road, but there was no sign of anything amiss when police arrived.
A man reported someone had scratched “Equals 16” on his truck.
Two domestic violence order denials were given to police to serve.
At 8:05 p.m. police were asked to provide traffic control at a business in the 900 block of HPR.
At 8:07 p.m. an intoxicated driver was reported weaving in and out of traffic.
At 8:44 p.m. juveniles were reported under the bridge. They told officers they were just trying to stay out of the rain.
At 11:48 p.m. a 911 caller said she had to run away from her boyfriend because he wouldn’t let her leave during an argument. The two were advised to separate for the night, and the man received a disorderly conduct warning.
In Court
Tikhon Lestenkof, 56, was sentenced to 10 days for violating conditions of probation.
Dylan W. Smith, 23, was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, and fined $1,000 for reckless driving. He was originally charged with driving under the influence but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. His license will be suspended for 30 days, and he will be on probation for a year.
Alicia M. Svilar, 23, was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, for driving with a revoked license. She is to perform 80 hours’ community work service and will be on probation for a year.
Dustin O. Jones, 31, was sentenced to 100 days, with 50 days suspended, for assault in the fourth degree. He was sentenced to 365 days, with 121 suspended, and fined $1,000 for driving with a revoked license. The sentences are to be served consecutively, and he is to complete an evaluation and treatment, which may include up to 60 days’ inpatient care. He will be on probation for two years.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 7:10 a.m., 8:53 a.m., 10:11 a.m. and 8:37 p.m. Wednesday; and 6:50 and 7:45 a.m. today.
At 4:41 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to the Hames Center parking lot to put out a small car fire.
At 6:56 p.m. Wednesday a fire truck was sent to Sitka Community Hospital on a false alarm.
At 6:50 a.m. today a fire truck responded to the report of an accident at the roundabout.
At 7:45 a.m. today a fire truck was sent to the 1800 block of HPR on a traffic accident.
At 9:22 a.m. today a fire truck was sent to 1321 Sawmill Creek Road on a false alarm.
