The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 21
A wallet was found sitting on a dumpster in the 1400 block of HPR.
A Specialized Rockhopper bike was found in the 1300 block of SMC.
A tax return check was stolen.
A caller said a dump truck hit a vehicle on Kramer Avenue.
A man said someone apparently enters his home while he’s out fishing. He said his girlfriend found a screw loose on his bed, but nothing else was amiss.
At 8:36 p.m. a driver reportedly went down the middle of Lincoln and Katlian Street, nearly running another vehicle off the road.
At 9:13 p.m. a caller said three people tried to break into a church then went next door to another business. Police found the church door open, and called the pastor to check the building.
Police investigated a report someone put melatonin in a woman’s drink so she would fall asleep and her sister could sneak out of the house. Officers found no evidence of such a report.
At 11:42 p.m. police received a report of a man in the water under O’Connell Bridge. (See story, page 1.)
Aug. 22
At 1:52 a.m. police investigated a fight that ended with someone being taken to the hospital for a broken ankle. One man was arrested.
At 2 a.m. a man and woman were reported struggling on Katlian Street.
At 2:16 a.m. an intoxicated man appeared to need assistance on Katlian Street. He was left in the care of another man heading in the same direction.
At 2:26 a.m. a caller said two men got into vehicles that weren’t theirs. Officers found they thought they had gotten into a taxi. The owner of the vehicle said nothing was missing, and he didn’t want to press charges.
At 7:48 a.m. a man said he received a message from a woman who reported a large bear on Nelson Logging Road. Police talked to the woman who said she made it past the bear without incident, and was heading back to town.
At 8:28 a.m. a woman said a man was being disruptive and refusing to leave. She was advised of options.
At 8:52 a.m. a caller said a bear had gotten into her chicken coop on Cascade Creek Road during the night.
At 9:44 a.m. a caller said a truck towing a boat had pulled down a power line, but it turned out to be a communications line. The driver said he would call the phone company.

A man was taken into protective custody after reportedly jumping into traffic, flipping people off and defecating next to a car in a harbor parking lot.
A vehicle stolen from the 200 block of Kaagwaantaan Street was found.
At 8:40 p.m. a babysitter reported hearing crackling in the Winchester Way area.Officers found nothing amiss.
A woman said her son was stealing her checks and buying liquor.
Aug. 23
At 1:10 a.m. men were reported fighting Marine Street.
A 15-year-old was cited for minor consuming at 2:30 a.m.
At 2:41 a.m. a caller said her sister may have been slipped a drug at a bar and needed to be taken to the hospital.
TSA asked police to pick up 30 rounds of .22 ammo seized at the airport.
At 8:23 a.m. an intoxicated man reported yelling at people downtown was taken into protective custody.
At 7:52 p.m. a woman texted a friend that her husband was yelling and assaulting her. Officers talked to the couple and found no sign of a crime.
A wallet was lost downtown.
At 10:13 p.m. a possibly intoxicated driver was reported leaving a store.

Jeb S. Phillips, 28, was arrested early Saturday on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Tye L. Finkbeiner, 35, was charged Saturday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Samantha Losselyong, 25, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 10 a.m., 1:45 p.m., 1:48 p.m., 2:35 p.m., 9:43 p.m. and 11:47 p.m. Friday; 1:53 a.m., 4:32 a.m., 7:06 p.m., and 7:51 p.m. Saturday; 2:42 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Sunday; and 3:42, 6:17 and 9:09 a.m. today.
At 11:50 p.m. Friday a dive and search and rescue team were sent to look for a man reportedly in the Sitka Channel, near the bridge. (See story, page 1.)
At 9:40 a.m. Saturday a fire truck went to the recycling center on a report of a downed power line, which was o be a communications line.
At 2:22 a.m. today a fire truck was sent to the airport on a false alarm.
