The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 25
A caller reported his black Stumpjumper bike was stolen from Andrews Street.
At 11 a.m. an intoxicated man was found passed out on a trail near Yaw Drive. He was left in the care of his mother.
At 1:39 p.m. a caller said a man high on something was lying in front of a business in the 900 block of HPR. Officers gave him a warning about having an open container and advised him to stay away from bars and liquor the rest of the day.
At 4 p.m. a caller asked for an ambulance for a man with a cracked pelvis.
At 5:22 p.m. a caller said a child was shooting other children with a BB gun on Naomi Kanosh Lane, and the mother wasn’t doing anything about it. Officers talked to the mother and child about safety, and the BB gun was taken away from the child.
At 5:27 p.m. a caller said his red and white Specialized bike with reflectors had been stolen in the past 24 hours from the 300 block of Harbor Drive.
At 7:15 p.m. an intoxicated man was reported lying on a path near Siginaka Way. He was taken into protective custody.
At 9:09 p.m. police received a 911 hangup call. On callback, a man said he needed the police non-emergency number. He needed help unlocking his vehicle, he said, and had been trying for several hours without success.
At 9:59 p.m. a 911 caller asked for an ambulance for a man who had accidentally stabbed himself while sharpening a knife.
At 9:29 p.m. a caller reported seeing a golden retriever running outbound in the 900 block of HPR. At 10 p.m. a caller said his yellow Lab was missing from Eliason Harbor. He was told about the report of the retriever on HPR, and it was retrieved.
Aug. 26
At 12:36 a.m. a caller said males were skateboarding around dormitories at Mt. Edgecumbe High, and when asked to leave they weren’t cooperative. They had since left, and the caller was advised to tell police if they returned.
At 3:06 a.m. a caller said a friend had missed the driveway in the 1000 block of HPR and the vehicle was in a ditch. The caller said she planned to have it towed, but wanted police to know about the accident.
Sitka Police
Richard D. Marvin, 50, was charged with driving under the influence and two counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree Tuesday evening.
In Court
Courtney MacArthur, 32, on a charge of reckless driving, reduced from a charge of driving under the influence was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, and fined $1,000 with $500 suspended. Her license was revoked for 30 days and she will be on probation a year. A charge of refusing to submit to a breath test was dismissed without prejudice.
David E. Huf, 40, on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident pleaded no contest and was found guilty. He was sentenced to five days, suspended, and fined $400 with $200 suspended. He will be on probation until Feb. 18, 2016.
Russell M. James, 26, on a charge of driving under the influence pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days with 57 suspended and fined $2,000. He is to complete treatment. His license was revoked for 90 days, and when driving privileges are restored he is to have an ignition interlock device installed for a year. He will be on probation until Aug. 19, 2017.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 4:03 p.m., 7:04 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, and 12:46 a.m. and 9:41 a.m. today.
Coast Guard
U.S. Coast Guard Sitka Air Station launched a helicopter at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday to fly a pregnant 44-year-old woman from Haines to Juneau.
