LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. September 28, 2015 Police Blotter

The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:

Sept. 25

Two BB guns found in rose bushes on Sirstad Street were turned in.

At 11:05 a.m. police documented a traffic accident on Barracks Street.

A card holder with two gift cards and a credit card were turned in.

At 11:52 a.m. a highly intoxicated man was reported in the 300 block of Katlian Street. Officers found him in a nearby bar where he was then refused service. Police sent him on his way after telling him to stay out of bars and liquor stores for the rest of the day.

At 12:06 p.m. a caller complained several vehicles were parked illegally  in the 2100 block of HPR.

A man said a woman had stolen a 30-06 Tikka rifle from his boat, and was planning on leaving town with it.

A caller reported a possible case of internet fraud, and was directed to the ic3.gov website.

A resident reported his daughter’s mini Specialized mountain bike was stolen from the 1100 block of HPR.

The animal control officer helped a woman retrieve her ferret from the Halibut Point Recreation Area.

A resident reported his neighbor’s trash was spilled on Wednesday, and now might be blocking a culvert on Davidoff Street. Police told the neighbor to clean up the garbage and notified public works about the culvert.

At 4:54 p.m. a driver expressed concern about a child sitting on the side of the road in the 2000 block of SMC. Police talked to a juvenile walking along the road, and advised him to stay out of the lane of travel.

Police are investigating a report of drugs.

At 7:44 p.m. a driver reported hitting a bench under the bridge. Police documented the incident.

At 9 p.m. police a loud party was reported on Metlakatla Street. Officers tried to contact the individuals, many of whom fled on foot. Officers arrested one on a probation violation.

At 9:20 p.m. a bear was reported at  HPR and Peterson Avenue.

At 10:51 p.m. a 911 caller  said a man was screaming on Georgeson Loop. Officers didn’t see anything amiss in the neighborhood.

Sept. 26

At 12:04 a.m. a caller said when she was having a bonfire near the SJ campus two people showed up uninvited and now several items, including cash, were missing. Police said they would follow up with the two.

At 1:05 a.m. police took a man who was downtown into protective custody.

At 4:59 a.m. a man told police he was not doing well, and planned to walk to the police station. Police called the man back, a woman answered and said she and her boyfriend had been arguing and she was trying to get him to calm down and go to bed. When police arrived, they found the man intoxicated but able to care for himself, and gave him a disorderly conduct warning. The couple agreed to separate for the night.

At 6:13 a.m. a man who was intoxicated and in distress on church steps was able to care for himself, and officers watched him walk home safely.

Windows were broken at a business in the 100 block of Lincoln Street.

A caller reported garbage knocked over at a building near the 800 block of HPR. A building official said he would get it cleaned up.

At 11:39 a.m. a caller said a crab pot fell off the back of a truck in the 1800 block of HPR, nearly hitting her vehicle. The owner told police he would retrieve and secure the load.

Police gave warnings at 12:27 p.m. to three people with open containers.

A woman in a green SUV was reported to have left a gas station without paying for $74 in gas. The woman told police she had paid with a credit card. She was told to call the gas station.

A Lincoln Street store signed a criminal trespass warning against a woman.

At 6:31 p.m. a caller reported a  child had been screaming for the last two hours on Burkhart Street. It turned out to be kids having a pillow fight.

At 10:08 p.m. officers received a report of people yelling on Kaagwaantaan Street, but found nothing amiss when they checked.

At 10:40 p.m. people were reported in the woods with flashlights in the 100 block of Indian River Road. Officers found it was a couple walking a dog.

Sept. 27

At 12:16 a.m. a resident reported a possible bear in the Wachusetts Street area. He said he hadn’t seen it, but didn’t believe the noises he heard belonged to a human.

At 12:48 a.m. a man called 911 but the dispatcher couldn’t understand him. Police talked to the man, who turned out to be upset about being 86ed from a bar.

Police left a minor who was consuming alcohol in the care of her father.

A caller said his friend’s ex-girlfriend had made unauthorized charges on the caller’s credit card.

A Trio tablet was reported stolen before 9:30 p.m. Saturday from the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi.

A resident reported his white cat with blue eyes was missing from Monastery Street.

A man said his mother sent him text messages that sounded like she might try to harm herself. She was taken into protective custody.

At 8:57 p.m. a DeGroff Street resident reported someone tried to open his front door but was scared off by his dog. No one was in the area when police went to check.

Sept. 28

At 12:57 a.m. a resident reported seeing an intoxicated man in a ditch at Hirst and Monastery streets, but no one was around when officers arrived.

At 1:44 a.m. police talked to two intoxicated people in the 400 block of Katlian Street. They were able to care for themselves and went on their way.

 

Sitka Police

Quentin M. White, 19, was arrested Friday on a felony probation violation by allegedly drinking. 

Tye L. Finkbeiner, 34, was arrested Saturday on three counts of violating conditions of release by allegedly consuming alcohol.

Casey Russell, 20, was cited early today on a charge of minor consuming.

 

In Court

Bryce B. Phillips, 22, was fined $1,500, with $750 suspended, for taking a doe on Sept. 7, which was during buck-only season, Aug. 1-Sept. 14, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said. He was fined $1,000, with $500 suspended, for unlawful possession or transportation of game. He will be on probation for a year.

Sean A. Barclay, 31, was fined $1,000, with $500 suspended. On a charge of unlawful possession of game, after he allegedly possessed a doe that was illegally taken. He will be on probation for two years.

 

Emergency Calls

The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:59 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. Friday; 3:47 p.m. and 11:57 p.m. Saturday; and 4:43 p.m. and 10:47 p.m. Sunday.
