LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Nov. 18
At 8:44 a.m. a woman asked police to talk to her 17-year-old daughter about her school attendance. The daughter told police that she was just running late, but planned to go to school. Her mother said she was concerned that the daughter was late for her first class, and sometimes missed it.
The juvenile probation officer asked officers to visit two juveniles.
Officers left an intoxicated man in the care of sober adults, at 11:04 a.m.
A man said his and his wife’s driver’s licenses and a debit card were lost.
A Surly bike was stolen from a porch on Indian River Road.
A Galaxy Note 4 phone was lost.
At 4:21 p.m. a caller complained about a truck plowing snow into the roadway in the 1500 block of Edgecumbe Drive. Neighbors said they hadn’t hired anyone to plow the road.
A woman reported a probable phone scam, in which a caller claiming to be from televangelist Joel Osteen’s ministry offered to pray with her. After she prayed with the caller, she was asked for a donation. She said she hung up. She said she didn’t believe Joel Osteen would seek donations over the phone.
Officers talked to kids throwing snowballs around and at vehicles in the 800 block of HPR. The kids said they were having a snowball fight but may have thrown snowballs at vehicles. They were told of the danger of throwing snowballs at cars, and advised to have snowball fights somewhere else.
At 8:26 p.m. officers checked on a vehicle that had run off the road and into a ditch. A driver was cited.
Intoxicated guests refusing to leave a home agreed to leave when police arrived, at 10:07 p.m. They were advised to stay out of bars and liquor stores.
Nov. 19
At 12:18 a.m. a caller reported seeing fresh footprints in the snow around her DeGroff Street home. No one was around when police checked, and officers saw no fresh footprints.
At 2:12 a.m. a caller in the 2100 block of HPR reported hearing a loud noise. Police found nothing amiss.

David Lindau, 52, was charged with violating a domestic violence order, on Wednesday.
Justin S. Michael, 18, was cited for failing to have a valid operating license, and failing to show proof of insurance.
Renee Peterson, 44, and Oran L. McGraw, 39, were charged Wednesday night with criminal trespass in the second degree.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and 4:44 a.m. today.
