Service For Greta Ryan Set June 12

A celebration of the life of Greta Lee Ryan, a lifelong Sitka resident, will be held 1-6 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at her home, 1509 Halibut Point Road.

Parking is available down the street at the former city shops building.

Greta died June 8 in Sitka at the age of 70.

She was born in Sitka in December 1950, the daughter of Richard (Dick) and Betty Eliason. Her father, a fifth generation fisherman, also served in the Alaska Legislature for many years, as a representative and then as a senator.

Greta graduated from Sitka High in 1969. She worked at Sitka Community Hospital and then at Sitka Vision Clinic.

She and her husband, Tim R. Ryan, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this month.

Greta will be remembered for her kindness and her service to the community. She was a volunteer for Brave Heart Volunteers and the Homeless Coalition, and took part in several activities. Among her activities was being a New Archangel Dancer.

Survivors include her husband, Tim Ryan, Sitka; daughter Jenny Torgerson, Carmel by the Sea, California, and her children, Derek, Selena, Sophia and Kostaki; daughter Jamey Marx and son-in-law Brandon Marx, Sitka, and their children, Dylan and Adoline; daughter Jackie Fischer of Moscow, Idaho, and her children Kylie, Elise, Gavin and Keira; and son Doug Nelson and daughter-in-law Julie Nelson of Issaqua, Washington.

She also is survived by siblings George Eliason, Ida Eliason, Richard (Botso) Eliason and Stan Eliason; stepmother Pat Eliason and stepsister Jennifer Postly, both of Sitka; and numerous nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Betty Eliason Child Care Center and Brave Heart Volunteers.
