Life of Archie W. McCarr To be Celebrated Oct. 16

Archie Wayne McCarr passed away October 6, 2021, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, surrounded by his family via video. He was 40.

A celebration of his life will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the United Pentecostal Church, 101 Cascade Creek Road. A reception will be held downstairs after the service.

Archie was born July 29, 1981, in Bethel, to June McCarr and George G. Johnson III. 

When he was 5 he was moved to Sitka by his dad and grandparents. He attended Sitka schools, from kindergarten to when he graduated from Pacific High School in 2002. He joined the Alaska National Guard. At this time Archie lived with his dad until his dad married Tracy and moved back to England, United Kingdom. Archie stayed here in Sitka, got a job at SEARHC as a security guard and also worked at Avis Rent A Car.

When Archie moved to Bethel for a bit he worked in the local grocery store. On his time off he enjoyed playing basketball, keeping himself in good physical shape. His favorite pastime was fishing with his dad, uncle, cousins, and friends. 

Archie was preceded in death by his mother June McCarr; his grandparents David and Lucy McCarr; and his uncles Fritz McCarr and Peter McCarr Sr., of Bethel.

On his dad’s side, his grandma Gertrude H. Shayen (Sitka); his uncle PFC William L. Shayen Jr. (Sitka); his cousins CPL Robert D. Samuelson Jr.  (Metlakatla), Steven W. Allery Jr.  (Sitka), and William D. Allery (Sitka) and his grandfather George B. Johnson Jr.,  (Angoon) preceded him in death.

Archie is survived by his parents George and Tracy Johnson III (England, United Kingdom); his sister Elsie Keezer and Nicolai Phillip, and their daughter Jacqueline (Bethel); his stepbrothers Chris Froggatt and Becki Holam and their kids Billy, Jake, Louis, Grace, Joseph, James, and Cody  (England, United Kingdom); Shane Pateman and Shannon Brammer and their kids Jayden and Alivia (England, United Kingdom); stepsister Shannon Pateman and Ed Worswick (England, United Kingdom); his grandpa William Shayen Sr. (Sitka); uncle Brian Johnson and Sharon Thomas (Sitka); his aunties Myrna Johnson and family (Sitka), Mary Samuelson and Andy Morris and family (Ketchikan), Sheryl and Mike Sanderson and family (Arizona), Georgianna and Michael Smith and family (Sitka), Karen Howard and family (Florida), Karla Shayen and family (California).

Archie’s sisters are Janelle (Olrick) Nick and their kids Justin Alicia (Bethel), and Lisa Amarok and kids Jonathan and Aubree (Bethel).

His brothers are Stanley Amarok and his kids Tesslynn and Angus (Bethel), and Joseph Schooler and Alathea Sugar and their kids David, Charlotte, and Rachel (Bethel).

Archie is loved and will be missed by many. He was kindhearted, well-mannered, and had a very contagious smile that made you feel, no matter what, that everything would be all right.
