Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today
September 13
At 12:09 a.m. a bear call came in from Wachusetts and Kimsham streets.
At 2:04 a.m. two individuals on bicycles at DeGroff and Monastery streets were advised of lights and other regulations.
At 5:08 a.m. a bear call came in from Naomi Kanosh Lane and Indian River Road.
At 7 a.m. a Lance Drive resident reported trash in front of the house that belonged to someone else. An officer responded, and picked up the trash.
A woman with mental health issues was reported trespassing in the 800 block of Lincoln Street.
At 9:20 a.m. an incident of drunkenness was reported at Eliason Harbor.
At 9:26 a.m. a woman with issues was reported causing a problem in the 700 block of Lincoln Street.
At 10:48 a.m. a National Park Service ranger talked to three apparently intoxicated persons at the Indian River foot bridge.
At 11:11 a.m. a store reported a woman had eaten a sandwich without paying for it.
At 11:48 a.m. a woman was reported causing a disturbance in the 800 block of Lincoln Street.
At 1 p.m. a man was reported yelling in the 1200 block of SMC. He was gone when officers arrived.
At 1:10 p.m. a restaurant on SMC said a man was outside bothering people and asking for money. An officer issued disorderly conduct warnings to two people.
At 1:37 p.m. a woman was reported trying to get into vehicles in the 1200 block of SMC. She was found to be able to care for herself.
At 2:21 p.m. a woman called police about identity theft.
At 4:49 p.m. a man and a woman were reported having a dispute in the 800 block of HPR. Officers found nothing of a criminal nature.
Citations for having bear attractants were issued in the 400 block of Verstovia, three in the 700 block of Monastery, and one on A Street.
Police issued four citations to juveniles who weren’t wearing bike helmets.
At 8:54 p.m. a woman was reported trying to get into a home in the 700 block of Lincoln Street. She was taken to a medical facility.
September 14
At 2:22 a.m. police contacted a man at Crescent Harbor who had called 911 repeatedly then hung up.

Oren McGraw, 45, was charged Monday with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass in the second degree.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 10:22 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:50 p.m., and 10:40 p.m. Monday.
Fire Call
A white van was badly damaged in a fire Monday night in the Presbyterian Church parking lot, 505 Sawmill Creek Road.
Sitka Fire Department was called at 7:08 p.m., and found the vehicle in flames alongside the building. After putting out the fire, the crew ventilated the building since windows were open.
The cause of the fire, which appeared to be in the engine compartment, has not been determined, a fire department official said this morning.
The year and make of the van and the name of the owner were not available, the official said.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
