Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
October 11
At 12:44 a.m. two men were reported fighting outside a downtown bar. One man was told not to return to the bar for the rest of the night.
At 3:08 a.m. a caller reported neighbors were fighting at an apartment on Burkhart Drive. Officers issued a disorderly conduct warning, but at 4:38 a.m. fighting was reported at the address, and one man, who was very intoxicated, was taken to the hospital. Assault charges are being forwarded.
At 7:19 a.m. a caller reported a trash can had been knocked over at Sea ’n’ Ski Trailer Court, and trash was on the ground.
A caller in Juneau reported a possible scam call concerning someone in Sitka selling puppies. Police determined the Sitka address given does not exist. No money had been paid.
At 10:20 a.m. an overturned trash can with bite marks was reported on Baranof Street. Fish and Game and Wildlife Troopers were notified.
At 12:12 p.m. a vehicle was reported to have broken a fence in the 400 block of Lake Street. The driver and the property owner exchanged information and handled the matter privately.
At 1:14 p.m. a caller reported garbage from another resident was in his yard.
At 2:35 p.m. garbage was reported on the ground in the National Park off SMC.
A caller said his girlfriend’s bike had been stolen from downtown on Oct. 10. Police are investigating the theft.
At 8:08 p.m. anti-bird rings had been blown off light poles in the 1800 block of HPR.
At 11:52 p.m. a caller said she was sad and thinking of suicide. Officers investigated.
October 12
At 3:25 a.m. police issued a verbal warning to a resident on Harbor Mountain Road about having a bear attractant.
Sitka Police
Travis Pete, 24, was charged Monday with assault in the fourth degree and reckless endangerment.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Monday.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
