Little Libraries
Celebration Set
The public is invited to a celebration of little libraries noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Rasmuson building on the SJ Campus.
It will include a free book giveaway, colorful crafts, snacks and a chance to preview Sitka’s third free little library. Those interested in serving on the board or hosting a fourth little library are being encouraged to attend. Masking and distancing will apply.
Moose Women
To Meet Jan. 10
Women of the Moose will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at the Moose Lodge.
On the agenda are the upcoming Chapter Rally Day which will be held in Anchorage late March, spring conference in Palmer, and fundraising ideas to defray expenses.
‘‘We are also asking members, past and present, to check their closets and see if they may still have one of the gold vests that were worn to all meetings,’’ organizers said. ‘‘We would like to incorporate them into a skit for the Anchorage Rally Day.’’

Ukulele Virtuoso
To Present Concert
Sitka Fine Arts Camp will present a concert with ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Sitka Performing Arts Center.
Shimabukuro’s music combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk and flamenco. He has collaborated with musicians such as Jimmy Buffett, Béla Fleck, Ziggy Marley, Cyndi Lauper, Keali’i Reichel, and Yo-Yo Ma.
Tickets are $25 and are available at www.fineartscamp.org/shows. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for guests 12 years and older for entry to the performance. All patrons must be masked at all times while in the Performing Arts Center, organizers said.
Sitka’s Murphy
Earns Degrees
Makayla Murphy, a 2017 Sitka High graduate, received two bachelor degrees in December from Washington State University in Pullman.
Murphy graduated magna cum laude in both political science and criminal justice and criminology.
She attended WSU on her National Merit Scholarship. She is the daughter of Gerald and Richelle Murphy.
