Uncommon Music
Festival Aug. 4-7
The Uncommon Music Festival has released its schedule for the Aug. 4-7 event in Sitka.
Guitarist-and-more Joshua Stauffer will play theorbo (a type of bass lute) 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at the St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
At 7 p.m. on Aug. 5, organist Jacob Reed will perform a solo recital called “A Pleasant Thought” on the historical organ at Sitka Lutheran Church.
The Uncommon Music Festival quartet will sing music selected for Sitka 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
On Aug. 6 at 7 p.m., the public is invited to meet the Uncommon Music Festival at the visitor center of the Sitka National Historical Park for a walk through the woods with music along the way.
The Uncommon Music Festival celebrates women, sacred music, and community, with readings selected by the Reverend Julie Platson 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at St. Peter’s. All are welcome.

Exploring Loss
Series for Children
Brave Heart Volunteers will offer ‘‘Exploring Death, Loss and Hope,’’ a four-session educational series for children ages 5-9, incorporating cultural and art activities.
Sessions, facilitated by Erin Matthews, LPC, CT, of SEARHC, will be 3:30-5 p.m. July 22, 25, 27 and 29.
The series is in partnership with SEARHC, 4-H, Sitka Conservation Society and Sitka Native Educational Program.

Sacred Harp
Sing July 10
All are invited to learn to sing four-part a capella harmony in the Sacred Harp (shape note) tradition 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10, outside on the porch behind BEAK Restaurant.
