ALASKA DAY – The Ninth Army band from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson follows a Sitka Police cruiser as they lead the Alaska Day parade Friday on Lincoln Street. Hundreds turned out for the parade and the 1867 transfer ceremony re-enactment on Castle Hill that followed. Alaska Day events included a period costume ball on Thursday, a military service at Sitka National Cemetery, the Lutheran pie sale and the Pioneer Home variety show and tea among other events. Two Bodies Found In Boat Recovery
By SHANNON HAUGLAND
Sentinel Staff Writer
Troopers said today the bodies of two women have been recovered from the wreckage of the charter fishing boat that sank Sunday off the southern end of Kruzof Island.
“They are believed to be Danielle Agcaoili, 53, and Brandi Tyau, 56,” troopers said in their daily dispatches report today. “The bodies are being transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for examination and identification.”
Four charter clients and the boat skipper were aboard the 30-foot aluminum boat for a day fishing charter on Sunday.
Kingfisher Charters reported the boat was overdue Sunday evening. A Coast Guard helicopter was launched at around 7 p.m. and found the half-submerged vessel just off Low Island, 10 miles southwest of Sitka near the southeast end of Kruzof Island.
On Sunday the Coast Guard retrieved the body of one passenger, later identified as Maury Agcaoili, 57, from the water near the half-submerged boat. With today’s recovery of the two women, Robert Solis, 61, a charter boat passenger from Canoga Park, California, and Morgan Robidou, 32, of Sitka, the skipper of the vessel, remain missing, the troopers said.
Hanson Maritime of Sitka is working on securing the wrecked charter boat, which authorities say remains offshore from Kruzof Island near where it was found Sunday evening.
“Efforts to raise the vessel and tow it back to town are ongoing,” troopers said in an 11:33 a.m. email today.
The Coast Guard suspended its intensive air, sea and land search at 9:30 p.m. Monday. The 20 hours of searching covered an area of 825 square miles, the Coast Guard said. Also involved were the Sitka Fire Department dive team, and search and rescue team, NOAA law enforcement, Alaska State Troopers and good Samaritan vessels.
